The New England Patriots have agreed to terms with Running Back Antonio Gibson. At the time of publication, the exact terms of the deal are unknown. Gibson had 65 carries for 265 yards and one rushing touchdown for the Washington Commanders in 2023. Gibson is coming off a career-worst year as he split carries in the Washington backfield with James Robinson Jr.
Antonio Gibson Career Recap
Gibson was drafted early in the third round (Pick #66) of the 2020 NFL Draft by Washington out of the University Of Memphis. Gibson’s first two years in the league were strong, but he has struggled to find his footing during his last two seasons in the “Nation’s Capital.”
Gibson has 22 career rushing touchdowns and averages just over four yards per carry in his NFL career.

What Will Antonio Gibson Bring To The New England Patriots Offense
The Patriots had one of the worst offenses in 2023 and Gibson will join a New England Patriots offense that will look entirely different next season. New England traded away Mac Jones on Sunday. This move seemingly sets the table for the team to draft a rookie quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Gibson joins a New England backfield that features Rhamondre Stevenson. New England was tied for the NFL’s lowest-scoring offense in 2023 averaging a paltry 13.9 points per game.
New England’s top priority this far during NFL Free Agency has been to replenish an offense that was terrible in 2023. The good news in Foxborough is there is nowhere to go but up. The offense in 2024 cannot get worse.
