The Boston Red Sox are starting a new season, just like all of the Major League Baseball teams. Boston seemed to already have a starting pitcher ready to play in Lucas Giolito. On Tuesday morning, his starting spot was no longer in place. He has suffered a torn UCL and flexor strain in his right elbow. Giolito has played on several different teams throughout his career, but his elbow injuries have slowed down his production in previous years.
Boston Red Sox Pitcher Lucas Giolito Could Miss 2024 Season Due To Elbow Injuries
Brutal news: Initial imaging showed Boston Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito likely has a partially torn UCL and flexor strain and could miss the 2024 season, league sources tell ESPN. Giolito, who signed a two-year deal with Boston, may need surgery to repair the right-elbow damage.

According to Jeff Passan, the Boston Red Sox pitcher could miss the 2024 baseball season. This could require Tommy John surgery, which is a known procedure done by many pitchers around the league. Giolito has had several stops during his career. He was with three organizations just last season in 2023. He signed a one-year deal with the Boston Red Sox in the offseason.
Undoubtedly, he is trying to bring his stock up from the previous season after having a down year. Due to his elbow injuries in the past, his numbers were not what he expected or wanted them to be. Sadly, with the most recent injury news, Giolito probably will not have a chance to raise his numbers or stock in 2024.
Boston Red Sox Spotlight
A few weeks ago, the Boston Red Sox were given the opportunity to be featured in a Netflix docuseries. It will give the baseball players a chance to talk about their journeys as well as show why they love the game. The Red Sox have been a popular baseball organization for many years. They believe that they deserve recognition heading into the 2024 season.
Last season, the Boston Red Sox were at the bottom of their division at 78-84 in the AL East. This season, they want to stay above .500, and knowing that the spotlight will be on them should give them more motivation to prove what they are capable of. Though teams like the Orioles and Yankees are in the way, they have the potential to show how good of a team they can be.
Boston Red Sox’s Newest Addition
Boston has added a new reliever to its pitching lineup for 2024. Liam Hendriks signed a two-year contract worth $10 million dollars. Unfortunately, he will spend most of the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery himself. Last season, he played in five games for the Chicago White Sox before exiting with a right elbow injury. Hendriks also won the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award after going 2-0 with Chicago.
Liam Hendriks was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2022. He is a good relieving pitcher who could close out games for the Boston Red Sox when he returns at some point in 2024. The Boston Red Sox will have to turn to another possible starter to begin the new season with the injuries sustained by Lucas Giolito and Liam Hendriks.
