The Boston Red Sox have required a starting pitcher to begin the 2024 MLB season in three weeks. On Tuesday, news came out about the Red Sox’s future starter Lucas Giolito possibly missing the season due to elbow injuries. Fast forward two days later, now Boston has signed Brayan Bello to a six-year extension worth $55 million through 2030.
Boston Red Sox Sign Brayan Bello To Six-Year Extension Through 2030
Brayan Bello made his Major League debut in 2022 with the Boston Red Sox. Last season, Bello started in 28 games, and held a record of 12-11. The 24-year-old had a 4.24 ERA with 132 strikeouts. Brayan Bello pitched in over 157 innings a year ago.
He finished the 2023 season with a 3.68 ERA. So far through his first two seasons, Bello has gone 14-19 with a 4.37 ERA and a 1.456 WHIP. The young right-hander now has six years to play with the Boston Red Sox, and a seventh-year option worth $21 million dollars if he chooses to play the final season through 2030.
Boston Red Sox Injuries To Start 2024
Lucas Giolito could miss the 2024 season due to elbow injuries. He suffered a UCL tear and a flexor strain to his right elbow. He was going to be the starter to begin the 2024 season. Giolito was trying to raise his stock from last season in 2023 after a drop-off in his production. Liam Hendriks was another signee who will miss the majority of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Hendriks is set to make his 2024 debut in the middle of the year after he is cleared from injured reserve.
Red Sox Need Players To Step Up In 2024
These injuries are a result of the Boston Red Sox signing Bello to a contract extension. The entire team will need to step up to have a winning record in 2024. Last season the Red Sox held a record of 78-84 in the American League East division. To begin 2024, the Boston Red Sox will be featured in a Netflix docuseries showcasing the upcoming baseball season for the organization.
Many staff members and players are excited for the opportunity to elaborate on their lives and careers as Red Sox baseball players. It should be exciting to see a well-known professional baseball team shown on a widely used network.
