Boston Celtics forward Sam Hauser welcomed a newborn child on September 8th. He and his wife had a baby boy named Theodore David Hauser. Sam and his wife shared photos of them and the baby on Instagram. It is a wholesome development of this NBA offseason that was met with love from the Boston Celtics organization and fanbase. This is Hauser’s first child, and he joins the ranks of fellow fathers on the Boston Celtics roster.
Sam Hauser’s Offseason
The birth of a child adds another positive to come out of what has been a great offseason for Sam Hauser. In July, Hauser signed a contract extension with the Celtics for four years, $45 million. This was coming off of a championship season, where Hauser provided key three-point shooting off the bench. This puts him under contract with Boston through the 2028-29 season. It’s a display of the Celtics confidence in Hauser, the organization believing that he has truly proven himself as a reliable piece on a contending team. Coming off a championship, a new paycheck, and a newborn son has to feel good for Hauser, and it has all been earned.
Sam Hauser’s Rise
This past season, Sam Hauser reached new heights in his production, stepping up to be an integral role player for the Boston Celtics. But he was not always in such a good position. Going undrafted out of the University of Virginia in 2021, Hauser was signed by the Celtics to a two-way contract, splitting time in Boston, and with their G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics. That season, he only played in 26 NBA games, at around six minutes a night. In his second season, Hauser was on the Celtics roster full-time, playing 16.1 minutes per game and averaging 6.4 points per game, shooting 41.8% for three.
That brings us to this season, where Hauser had his best season to date. He averaged 9.0 points per game, shooting an elite 42.4% for three. The three-point shooting has set Hauser apart, getting him quality minutes in the regular season and the playoffs. In the playoffs, Hauser averaged 5.4 points per game, shooting 38% beyond the arc. While this was not as efficient as he was in the regular season, Hauser had many hot and cold games. In the first-round series against the Miami Heat and the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, Hauser shot the ball well, having multiple games where he made three or more three-pointers.
But, in the second-round series, facing the Cleveland Cavaliers, Hauser went 2/3 for three in Game 3 but shot 1/6 in the rest of the series. Then, in the Eastern Conference Finals, he shot a cold 1/14 for three in the series versus the Indiana Pacers. So, essentially, when Sam Hauser is hot beyond the arc, there aren’t many better. Like any three-point shooter, he has cold games and off nights, but at his 42.4% number last season, Hauser was one of the most efficient shooters in the NBA.
Final Thoughts
Going into next season, things are looking up for Sam Hauser. He and his wife have welcomed a baby boy, and he is coming off a career year where he earned himself a lucrative contract extension. Hauser will likely be secured in his role on the team, due to the extension, but may have to give up minutes to new additions like Lonnie Walker IV and Baylor Scheierman. But if he can maintain his excellent three-point shooting, then his role on the Boston Celtics always be there. The Celtics are motivated heading into the new season, and with all the good things going Sam Hauser’s way this offseason, he should be able to contribute to the team’s success once again.
