Chelsea started up in good footsteps, making them earn an impressive 1-0 in the semi-final first-leg match with Barcelona on Saturday 20th of April, with Erin Cuthbert’s fine strike in the women’s Champions League. This was awesome, making Chelsea one step ahead of Barcelona. But the table turned against Chelsea in the second semi-final second legs.

About 72 minutes into the match Bonmati charged into the box and found herself in between Jess Carter and Amy Lawrence. Carter clipped the midfielder who went down, and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot Barcelona earned a penalty in the Women’s Champions League match against Chelsea.

Fridolina Rolfo stepped up and did the honors to take the penalty and confidently converted it, giving the home team the lead. This incident was a crucial moment in the match, as Rolfo’s goal helped Barcelona secure a 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the second leg of the semi-final.

What is next for Barcelona?

 

After defeating Chelsea in the women’s Champions League match, Barca women’s team is positioned for further success. With their strong performance, they’ve shown they’re a force to be reckoned with and make their fourth straight UWCL final.

In the final in Bilbao on May 25, Barca will face Lyon, after Olympique Lyonnais won Paris Saint Germain in in the second leg of their semi-final.

It will be Barca’s fourth successive final berth as they look to lift the trophy for the third time. “We are very happy. We deserved the victory. Barca is in the final for the fourth time in a row and wants to win it for the third time. Surely they are looking forward to maintaining their winning momentum in the seasons to come.
