Chamari Athapaththu, one of Sri Lanka’s top batters, has once again become the best in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings. She achieved this after scoring an amazing 195 runs without getting out in the third ODI against South Africa.
Her excellent performance in this crucial match helped Sri Lanka tie the three-game series in South Africa. They were chasing a really big score of 302 to win. And Athapaththu’s fantastic 195* runs played a huge part in their comeback. It’s the third-highest score ever made by a woman in ODIs.
Chamari Athapaththu Regains Top Spot
Chamari Athapaththu is back at the top spot after her incredible performance. Her outstanding innings not only led her team to victory. But she also leveled the closely contested ICC Women’s Championship Series at 1-1. This ninth ODI century of hers is a record-breaking inning. This marked the highest individual score in a successful chase in Women’s ODIs.
It’s worth mentioning that Athapaththu had held this prestigious position before in July 2023, but was briefly surpassed by players like Beth Mooney and later by Sciver-Brunt.
Her score is also the second-highest ever in a successful run chase in ODI cricket, for both men’s and women’s matches, just behind Glenn Maxwell‘s 201* against Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
This amazing knock has elevated Athapaththu to her highest-ever rating (773) in the women’s batting rankings. Additionally, she has climbed two spots in the all-rounder rankings, now sitting in ninth position in the top 10.
