The Olympics did not disappoint on February 21. The United States won a gold medal in freestyle skiing and a bronze medal in women’s bobsled. However, the news of the day was Johannes Klaebo winning his record sixth gold medal of these Olympics.

The Olympics are set to end tomorrow. There will be a men’s hockey game between the United States and Canada for the gold medal. There will also be the closing ceremony to watch, but then the Winter Olympics will be over. What will you watch once the Games are over?

The United States has most likely locked up second place overall in the medal count. They are guaranteed to win one more tomorrow in the gold medal hockey game. However, Norway has definitely locked up first place in the medal count. They were powered by the six gold medals from Klaebo in cross-country skiing.

King Klaebo Rules in February

The cross-country skier, Johannes Klaebo, from Norway, won yet another gold medal on February 21 in the 50km race. That gold medal was his sixth of these games. That total exceeds the total of five by Eric Heiden. Klaebo won the sprints and won the excruciatingly long races. He showed tremendous versatility en route to dominating these Olympics.

Klaebo now has 11 total gold medals. He is a long way off from the 23 won by American swimmer Michael Phelps.

United States Wins Gold In Freestyle Skiing

The United States freestyle ski competitors rose to the top of the podium Saturday during the mixed team aerials final. They have won back-to-back gold. The win sets a new record for the United States, which has now earned 11 gold medals. The team was comprised of Connor Curran, Kaila Kuhn, and Christopher Lillis.

Freestyle Skiing has been a little disappointing in these winter Olympics. These events, which have proliferated, were once a bastion for American medals. They produced mega stars. However, the world has caught up to the United States. This was a good way to wrap up this event.

United States Earns Bronze In Women’s Bobsled

The United States won a bronze medal in women’s bobsled on February 21. They came from behind to earn the medal, breaking the German stranglehold on the podium. Kallie Humphries, a five-time Olympian and three-time gold, two-time bronze medal winner, paired up with fellow mother and Olympian teammate Jasmine Jones, who placed high enough to earn bronze with a time of 3:49.21.

That pair set a track record in the first heat, but had second and third runs that were not as good. However, they were able to have a good fourth run to sneak onto the podium. It will be interesting to see if some of the successful old guard retire from bobsledding following these Olympics and are replaced by new stars for the United States.
