Ange Postecoglu Calls Tottenham’s Loss at Brighton ‘Unacceptable’

Tottenham Spurs Ange Postecoglu

Ange Postecoglu’s side fell to Brighton in their Premier League game. Tottenham Hotspur had already taken the two-goal lead in the first half through Brennan Johnson and James Maddison. However, Brighton stunned them in the second half with a comeback display. It was a disappointing performance by Tottenham Hotspur. Ange Postecoglu was very displeased and frustrated with how the game turned out.

Last week, Spurs tore Manchester United apart at Old Trafford 3 nil, and the same momentum saw them excel in the Europa League, winning Fencevaros 2-1. With this, Ange Postecoglu must have expected a continuation of such a display at the Amex against Brighton. It started well in the first half, but the North London club failed in the second half, allowing Brighton to recover and get the better of them.

Brighton Tottenham Recap

The Spurs started the game against Brighton very well and strongly. The London club took quick control of the game, and they started launching dangerous attacks against Brighton, one entered but was ruled off. Soon, they found the net through Brennan Johnson thanks to Solanke’s assist. Spurs extended the lead through Maddison after Werner’s pass. Tottenham were already in control.

The second Half came, and it was Brighton’s turn to get their fair share of goals. It started very early with Yakunba Minteh, and it didn’t stop there. After 10 minutes, Georgino Rutter leveled the game. This caused chaos among the Spurs team, causing them to lose the game balance.

Brighton found the winner 8 minutes later through Welbeck. With over 20 minutes left for the game to end, Ange Postecoglu’s side failed to find an equalizer, leading to a disappointing loss.

Ange Postecoglu on the loss

The Australian expressed his disappointment and was very displeased with the way his team handled the game.

He said: “Disappointing. Frustrated and absolutely gutted with that,”

He spoke to Sky Sports saying: “Worst defeat since I’ve been here. Unacceptable second half. We weren’t anywhere near where we should be. We got carried away with how we were going. We kind of accepted our fate and it is a bit hard to understand as we’ve not done that while I’ve been here. We’ve usually fought for everything, but when you don’t, you pay the price.”

He further added: “The problem is we are traveling along too smoothly, football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself. That’s what it looked to me in the second half.”

Postecoglu Analysis of the Game

Postecoglu further analyzed the game. He revealed what his team missed out on and what they failed to the in the game.

He said: “There is no message [to the players]. It is a terrible loss for us – as bad as it gets,” he added. “There’s only one way to fix it and that’s my responsibility. We lost all our duels and if you’re not competitive it is not going to work – we were not competitive. They all go on international duty, the majority of them. They will process it individually and I will process it when everyone gets back.”
