Alex Pereira recently commented on the results of UFC 305. Dricus du Plessis dominated the former champion, Israel Adesanya, and defended his title in the middleweight Championship. Pereira expressed his plans to come down to 185 pounds to fight the Champion and become a double champion.
While many fighters are waiting in line for the middleweight title, it would be an injustice for those already waiting in line. Pereira is a fighter in the Light Heavyweight division, so it would be easier for him to fight du Plessis than another fighter in middleweight. Magomed Ankalaev is among the fighters who are training and working hard for the middleweight title.
Magomed Ankalaev Criticizes
Ankalaev has criticized Pereira in terms of his wanting to fight in the middleweight division and such statements prolong controversies in the MMA community. Ankalaev, who is a UFC light heavyweight champion, resumed his criticism of Pereira after the latter told the media about his plans to drop to middleweight. Pereira made these remarks just a few weeks after du Plessis easily submitted Adesanya. No confirmation of Pereira’s move but Ankalaev did not overlook an opportunity to verbally attack the Brazilian fighter.
Ankalaev accused him of trying to pick fights with lower weights, saying, “@AlexPereiraUFC biggest chicken in the UFC he calls out guys middleweight he weighs 40 pounds more than them. I am the only guy he doesn’t even mention my name I promise I’m gonna to handle my business in October and I’m gonna knock you out under two rounds.”
Alex Pereira Moving up the Division
Some facts about Pereira counter the words of Ankalaev. One is that he is very familiar with the middleweight division, as he was a champion there before moving up to light heavyweight. Not long after Pereira expressed interest, Dricus du Plessis talked to Submission Radio and asked the UFC to set up the fight for December. However, even with all the talk about Pereira possibly dropping back down in weight, it seems unlikely for now.
The Brazilian fighter has already a fight coming up next. Alex Pereira is set to fight Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main event of UFC 307. Magomed Ankalaev, on the other side, is struggling to make it to fight du Plessis but every time he tries to do that, UFC assigns someone else to him. Magomed Ankalaev didn’t get a title shot and will be fighting Aleksander Rakic instead. This surprising decision has upset fighters like Jan Blachowicz and Jamahal Hill, but Ankalaev is eager to face Pereira as soon as possible.
