Aaron Judge’s Gargantuan 2024 is Nothing Short of Amazing

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees MVP

Aaron Judge hit a grand slam as the Yankees beat the Red Sox 5-4 on Friday, September 13. At that time, the Yankees had a three-game lead over the Orioles, their largest in three months. He is having another fabulous season leading the Yankees. What we are witnessing is history. That said, there is something Judge, the Captain of the Yankees, must do to cement his legacy.

Judge is having a fantastic season. Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals notwithstanding, he may win the triple crown this season. Aaron leads the league with 52 home runs and 130 runs batted in. He trails Witt in batting by about ten percentage points,  .330 to .320. It seems Judge hits a home run every at-bat. It is best not to throw him strikes or make mistakes with him. He hits mistakes hard.

Aaron Judge Career Statistics

Aaron has had a great career. This season, he passed Ralph Kiner, who had a blistering start to his career, for the fastest player ever to hit three hundred home runs. In 2022, he hit an American League record 62 home runs. That is a record for a player not on performance-enhancing drugs. He batted .311 in 2022, the season he hit 62 home runs. So, there is precedent for him to have a high batting average.

In 2022, he had a 10.6 WAR (wins above replacement), a statistic that measures how many more wins you would supply your team over an average player). Anything over 6.0 is considered an elite season. WAR is a cumulative statistic, and this season, so far, he is at 9.6. He has had three seasons of over 6.0 WAR and one season of a 5.9 WAR.

However, Judge is far from being the only star on the New York Yankees.

The Rest of the Good Yankees

There are several other big stars on the New York Yankees, including Gerrit Cole, Juan Soto, and Giancarlo Stanton. All of these players, particularly Cole and Stanton, are getting old, and the Yankees must take advantage of peak Judge time to win championships now.  They must come together to help the twenty-seven-time world champion Yankees win again.

How to Cement a Yankee Legacy

This is very simple. Aaron must win championships to cement his legacy and be among the Yankee all-time greats like Derek Jeter. Putting up gargantuan numbers is not enough. Time, however, is running out on Judge and his teammates. They must win the World Series this year.

Conclusion

Aaron Judge is the most feared batter in baseball and is having a fantastic season. However, to join the legends of the Yankees, such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Derek Jeter, he must win a championship or ten.  This season, and maybe the next two or three, are peak Judge time, and they must win to help cement his legacy.
