Anthony Miller Shockingly Turning Heads with Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens brought in a few veteran pass catchers, one including Anthony Miller before their second preseason game this weekend. The other was Russell Gage a few days before, as it is clear they are looking for more solid competition on the roster and camp bodies.

These signings might be a reaction to the overall training camp performances of their non-starting wide receivers. Both Miller and Gage are getting another shot at making the NFL again, even if it is for either a mentorship role or depth signing. They are known for their solid hands and route-running prowess while showcasing some play-making ability when healthy in the past.

The veteran pass catcher is already making an impact and making some plays in practice with Lamar Jackson. Anthony Miller signed earlier this week and is noticeably standing out, getting reps with the first team. This was a few days after the Baltimore Ravens also signed veteran Russell Gage.

The 29-year-old is a former second-rounder from 2018 and was drafted by the Chicago Bears. After three years, he spent some time with the Houston Texans via trade and the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2021. Due to multiple injuries, Miller’s last on-the-field action was three seasons ago for a quick stint.

Super Bowl Contender Looking for Receiver Depth

The Baltimore Ravens are seeking some quality depth or a potential receiver to push for the third spot on the depth chart. Zay Flowers is their number one, while Rashod Bateman and veteran Nelson Agholor are their current two and three starting wideouts. This is on top of their dynamic tight-end duo Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, along with their new starting running back Derrick Henry,

For depth, they have returner Tylan Wallace, veteran returner Deonte Harty, and rookie Devontez Walker all likely getting a spot. But if Miller or Gage make it interesting, then that just strengthens the team ultimately. Receivers like Sean Ryan, Keith Kirkwood, Isaiah Washington, Dayton Wade, and quarterback convert Malik Cunningham are fighting for a spot on the roster or practice squad.

Preseason is Key for Veteran Pass Catchers

For veterans like Miller and Gage, they will have to make the most of this opportunity in the preseason. For any chance to make the team, they will have to beat out guys who most likely have solidified returner roles with Wallace and Harty, along with a mid-round rookie Walker.

Against the Atlanta Falcons for preseason week two, we should see a lot of Anthony Miller, as it was announced he is going to be involved quite often. The same goes for the other depth receivers looking to make an impact. It is notable he already made a few splash plays during training camp the same week he arrived, considering he hasn’t played in multiple years.
