Haason Reddick, the All-Pro edge rusher who was traded to the Jets, requests a trade out of New York. The Philadelphia Eagles received a conditional third-round pick for a player who is in the last year of his deal. This offseason, Reddick has been holding out of training camp seeking a a new deal.
Although the 29-year-old now wants to be moved, general manager Joe Douglas responded to his statement by saying that they will stick to their original stance on the matter. The two-time Pro Bowler is subject to fines by the CBA if he continues to miss time into the regular season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reddick officially requested a trade while he is currently still holding out. Right after, the Jets and Douglas came out with an official statement saying that they would not adhere to his trade request and expect him to be back with the team. This chaotic situation could’ve been avoided if they paid him right after they traded for him.
This was an interesting move by New York, as they have invested high draft capital like Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald IV. They were draft picks in the first round the past two seasons, yet they went out to trade for Reddick. Now, it is unclear if he will play for the team he was expected to sign long-term with. He is currently in the last year of his deal worth $14.25 million.
Can the Jets Salvage this Holdout Situation?
Haason Reddick is on his fourth team and if he is traded, then that would make it his fifth entering his eighth season. The former first-rounder from 2017 had a rough start to his career with the Arizona Cardinals for the first three years. He had double-digit sacks in both seasons with 12.5 and 11 in 2020 and 2021. The Jets swapped him and sent edge rusher Bryce Huff to the NFC this past offseason.
But in the past two years with the Eagles, Reddick has had a career revival with 16 and 11 sacks in back-to-back seasons. The veteran had a fourth-year breakout with the Cardinals before signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. This prove-it season led to him signing with Philadelphia in 2022, which led to a Super Bowl appearance against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Teams Potentially Interested in Reddick if Made Available
The Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions, and Miami Dolphins need more pass rush. These playoff-caliber teams are an edge rusher away from having elite defenses. The conditional third could turn into a second for the Eagles if Reddick plays a certain amount of snaps in 2024. But the cost of getting him may be lower now due to this situation.
Philadelphia may be in the mix as well, along with his former team that drafted in with the Arizona Cardinals. Many would love to acquire a player who’s had double-digit sacks in the last four years. It will come down to the price and if the Jets are willing to listen to offers. It is a standoff between New York and Reddick that may last a while after missing OTAs, minicamp, and now training camp.
