Seattle Seahawks Rookie Was The Victim Of Extortion Attempt Agent Claims

The Seattle Seahawks were patient in the 2024 NFL Draft, and it paid off. There was a run on offensive players in the first 15 picks. GM John Schneider was able to get his pick of the top defensive players at number 16. They took Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, who bolstered a defensive line that needed help. His newfound fame is reportedly coming with some unwanted attention. His agent revealed he was the victim of an extortion attempt in the offseason.

Earlier in the week, some social media leaks brought to light some concerning allegations against Seattle Seahawks rookie Byron Murphy II. The private messages accused the first-round pick of owing an OnlyFans model almost $15,000. The posts gained so much traction that his agent, Ron Slavin, had to make a statement.

“Recently, my client Byron Murphy was the victim of an extortion attempt from a text conversation that began and ended online. He had no contact with this person. This blackmail scheme has targeted other young players in the league. We have notified the NFL, turned the matter over to the FBI. Anyone involved in this scheme will be prosecuted.”

Slavin claims that his client is not the only one who has been a victim of the alleged extortion. It isn’t surprising people might be trying to get money out of NFL rookies. Their newfound fame, paired with large salaries, means scammers might try to make a quick buck. In this case, it doesn’t seem to have worked. The X account that posted the leaks has been locked and is now labeled as a parody account, leading many to believe the whole thing was a scam.

2024 Outlook

The Seattle Seahawks had a disappointing 2023 season. Some of this was due to injuries all across the roster, but many players had subpar seasons. They are looking for 2024 to be different. Former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald is now the head coach, and many believe this could be one of the best hires of the offseason. He inherits a very young defense, including Byron Murphy II, which he can hopefully mold into a defense not seen in Seattle since the Legion of Boom.

From an offensive standpoint, the Seattle Seahawks need a bounceback year from Geno Smith. He had a career year in 2022 but then took a step back in 2023. There is talent around him, as DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are a great trio of receivers. However, what will help the entire offense is if the offensive line can stay healthy. They lost both their tackles last season, which had a drastic effect on what they could run.

Tough Division

The Seahawks are in one of the toughest divisions in the NFC. San Francisco has their sights set on a Super Bowl. The Rams still have an elite offense but are a little less scary on defense after Aaron Donald retired in the offseason. Even the Cardinals should be better with the combination of Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. leading the offense. It will be a tough road, but Seattle has made massive changes to its organization, which will hopefully pay off in 2024.
