James Anderson is expected to be playing his last Test match against the West Indies at Lord’s and cricket is holding pensiveness about one of the best fast bowlers that the sport has recognized. Australian cricketer Nathan Lyon has also chimed in with a compliment, describing James Anderson as the best fast bowler to ever grace the cricketing pitch.
Lyon’s admiration comes at a time when Anderson is preparing for his last hurrah at the classic test match, the end of a glorious and over two-decade-long cricketing career. After making a debut for his national team in 2003, Anderson is all set to bid farewell in the home test series against the West Indies.
Anderson’s Good Form in the County Championship
While playing the recent County Championship match against Nottinghamshire, James Anderson once again showed that he is a master of this format. His dazzling bowling spell of seven wickets in 35 overs was the key for Nottinghamshire to get bundled out for just 126. This great display compelled Nottinghamshire to follow on in the First Division match at Southport and proved that James Anderson is still a potent force despite his age.
Nathan Lyon, an outstanding spinner and James Anderson’s contemporary too, did not even blush in showering praise on the Englishman. Considering James Anderson’s recent actions, Lyon underlined that these particular features have always distinguished Anderson during his career.
He pointed out that Anderson has been very effective in getting that extra zip and momentum off the pitch, something that has made him a force to reckon with on English wickets. By setting and moving on Anderson, Lyon said that he was astonished by England, though asserting that Anderson is still one of the best, if not the best, fast bowlers in the world and arguably the best in the history of cricket.
James Anderson’s Farewell Test
James Anderson would leave the team after the first Test of England’s home summer against the West Indies, which will commence next Wednesday, at the age of 41 years. This match at Lord’s will be the crescendo of a distinguished career in which Anderson has featured in 187 Tests and claimed 700 wickets, the first seam bowler and not a spinner to reach the special milestone.
Nonetheless, given the rebalancing of the English team and the migration towards taking in new talents into the team, James Anderson’s exit is certainly going to create a massive void. Due to his accumulation of numerous international matches and different conditions, he has been part of England’s bowling lineup for years.
Although James Anderson has been part of the England team for many years, and, likely, his days as the attacking spearhead for the team are numbered, his role as a premier assistant in the team is far from over. Anderson will then assume the responsibility of a bowling analyst, tasked with grooming future English fast bowlers after his last Test match.
His new mantle entails preparing the young pacemen who have been chosen for the West Indies series, and, hence, he will be imparting knowledge and wisdom to the players. James Anderson, as a mentor, is also to have an important role in the process of growing the future talents of English cricket, so his impact would not be limited to the active game but would carry on after his retirement.
