Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant Jersey Sells For Massive Amount At Auction

Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant

It is impossible to talk about the history of the Los Angeles Lakers without mentioning Kobe Bryant. In this day and age, it is rare for a star player to spend their entire career with one team. Bryant spent his entire career with the Lakers. His untimely death in a helicopter crash rocked the franchise and the basketball world as a whole. His memorabilia has become more collectible, and a recently game-worn jersey was sold for a massive amount over the weekend.

Dylan Manfre of Sportico was the first to report the news of this jersey being sold at an auction. The Kobe Bryant jersey sold was worn during the game when he tore his Achilles in April of 2013. This was a pivotal moment in Bryant’s career, as he never looked the same after the injury. Furthermore, he hit the two free throws after tearing his Achilles, showcasing his toughness and drive to win. The Los Angeles Lakers jersey had many special aspects to it.

“The signed 2013 Bryant jersey was photo-matched by memorabilia authentication company MeiGray and features the NBA logoman patch and a purple circle patch with the letters “JB” honoring late Lakers owner Jerry Buss, who died in February 2013,”

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss had recently passed away, and the team was honoring him with a custom patch. This makes the jersey even more collectible for a Lakers fan as it isn’t just a piece of Kobe Bryant’s history but the Laker’s history as well. The winning bid was $1 million, with the 22% buyer premium pushing it to $1.2 million. While this is a massive amount, it is by no means the highest. A jersey he wore during his 2007-08 MVP year sold for $5.8 million.

Lasting Legacy

Even before his passing, Kobe Bryant had a huge impact on the league. The Los Angeles Lakers star is constantly mentioned by current and former players as the inspiration for their game and competitiveness. The drive he had to win was unparalleled in the NBA. This is what made him one of the most popular players among fans of the team and the NBA. There are so many historic moments in his career that this will likely not be the last time we see a piece of Kobe memorabilia go for a high price.

It would have been great to see Kobe Bryant continue his basketball career in some way. Whether it would have been commentating or coaching, having his hand in the game of basketball would have been cool to see. His legacy lives on even though he is no longer with us, and basketball fans continue to celebrate his legacy every day.
