Hawaii will enter the 2024-2025 season with athletic junior guard Marcus Greene on the roster, the team announced on May 20. Greene signed with the team from the transfer portal after verbally committing to play for the Rainbow Warriors earlier in the month.
Greene will enter his third season of college basketball with one year of eligibility remaining after spending the 2023-2024 season with the Houston Christian Huskies of the Southland Conference. Greene averaged 15.1 points per game with the Huskies, good for second on the team.

Joining his third team in four years, Marcus Greene will be a member of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors for the 2024-2025 NCAA men’s basketball season. Given current shape of the team roster, Greene figures to have an immediate impact as a scorer with the potential to be the team’s top offensive option.
Greene’s 15.1 points per game in 2023-2024 would have been first on the team for Hawaii. The ‘Bows leading scorer on the year, Noel Coleman, put up 13.6 points per game. Coleman has been the team’s leading scorer in each of the past three seasons and topped the 1,000-point milestone during his fifth and final season of collegiate play.
Coleman is not the only key contributor to be leaving the team, as Hawaii will enter the 2024-2025 season without its top six scorers from the previous year. Along with Coleman, fellow starters Justin McKoy, JoVon McClanahan and Bernardo da Silva will all depart as graduating seniors while backup center Mor Seck announced his decision to enter the transfer portal in March.
Backup guard Juan Muñoz and reserve Matthue Cotton will also not return to the team after exhausting their collegiate eligibility.
Of the four remaining players from the preexisting 20-14 Rainbow Warriors who averaged over 10 minutes per game, freshman Tom Beattie will be the returning leading scorer at just 3.9 points per game. Ryan Rapp and Harry Rouhliadeff will be the only other rotational players from the 2023-2024 team who will be present in the Stan Sheriff Center in November.
Marcus Greene’s collegiate career
Marcus Greene will end his collegiate career in the 50th state without having played two consecutive seasons for a single team. Per the official release from Hawaii Athletics, Greene will enter the 2024-2025 season with one year of NCAA eligibility.
Greene, a key part of the 2023-2024 Houston Christian team that finished just 6-23, spent his inaugural season of Division I basketball with Sacramento State. In his freshman year, Greene put up just 2.0 points per game in 19 appearances and decided to transfer to Panola Community College for the following year.
In his transition year, Greene averaged a respectable 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the no. 10 ranked Panola Ponies.
Upon his return to Division I, Greene showed off his dynamic offensive skill set, shooting 42.7 percent from three-point range and 45.1 percent from the field overall.
