Knicks vs. Pacers – Series Recap & Trends

The Knicks and Pacers square off in Game 7 in a series where the home team is a perfect 6-0.

The home team is a perfect 6-0 in this series. Through the first three games, the margin of victory was a total of just 18 points. However, the games have not been nearly as competitive over the past few contests. Indiana won Game 4 by a 121-89 margin. New York responded with a 121-91 romp in Game 5 and had a chance to close out the series on the road.

With their season on the line, though, the Pacers answered back with a 116-103 victory to force a seventh and deciding game in what has been an intense series throughout. In that Game 6 victory, Pascal Siakam paced the team’s offense with 25 points, seven boards, five dimes, and two steals.

Myles Turner added 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. Andrew Nembhard and Tyrese Haliburton contributed 15 points apiece, with each knocking a trio of three-point shots.

New York Knicks

On the other side, Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 31 points and five assists. He struggled with his shot a bit as he converted 11 of his 26 attempts overall, including a 3-for-8 effort from beyond the arc.

Miles McBride turned in a solid performance with 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor and 4-for-6 from long range. Donte DiVincenzo added 17 points and four rebounds, shooting 3-for-8 from the 3-point line.

Despite the team’s recent hiccup in Game 6, New York has played much better on its home court throughout this series. For instance, the Knicks average 124 points at home compared to just 99.3 points on the road. Additionally, they outrebounded the Pacers by a total of 42 in their three home games, But in the three road games, Indiana won the rebounding battle with an average of 12 more boards per contest.

Lastly, New York shot 52 percent overall and 42 percent from 3-point range in its three home victories. Conversely, those numbers dip to 41.4 percent overall and 34.7 percent from distance. While New York has been a more formidable team on its home court in this series, head coach Tom Thibodeau understands that nothing will come easy in a winner-take-all game.

Here are his thoughts via CBS Sports:

“You’re going to get tested physically, mentally, emotionally, and you’ve got to be able to get through that. And so, whatever it is that we’re facing, we can overcome. Just keep battling.”

The last time these two teams squared off in a Game 7 was 1995. Indiana won that game by a narrow 97-95 margin. Will that scenario play out in a similar fashion this time around, or will the home team hold serve one more time?
