The last time a major golf tournament was held at Louisville’s legendary Valhalla Golf Club Tiger Woods missed the cut. He’s done it again at the PGA Championship, shooting a 77 today, finishing at plus-seven, tied for 133rd place.
Tiger says he will play the U.S. Open next month at Pinehurst beginning on June 13. “Just keep fighting,” Woods said. “Keep the pedal on, keep fighting, keep grinding, keep working hard at posting the best score that I can possibly post today. That’s all I can do. It’s going to be a lot, but I’m going to fight until the end.”
Tiger Woods: Recovery Wasn’t Enough

The start to Tiger’s second round was tough to watch. Over the first four holes he was in three bunkers. He ended up making two triple-bogeys in the first four holes. In just about an hour Tiger Woods’ plus one score went to plus seven.
“Well, I got off to a bad start and the rough grabbed me at 2,” Woods said. “No sand in the bunker as well. Just made a mistake there. I compounded the problem there at 4. Just kept making mistakes and things you can’t do, not just in tournaments but in majors especially. And I just kept making them. I hung around for most of the day but unfortunately the damage was done early.”
It was the first time in Tiger Woods’ 1,344 rounds in his PGA Tour career that he had multiple triple-bogeys, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
Woods did turn it around, going one under over the final 14 holes. He made a birdie on the par-five 18th, after pulling his approach shot into the crowd. From about 100 feet in the rough, he chipped to four feet and made the easy putt.
Schauffele Keeps the Lead Starting the Third Round

Everyone in the field is looking up at Xander Schauffele. He leads after 36 holes at the PGA Championship at 13 under par. He shot three under 68 and led by one over 2020 PGA Champion Collin Morikawa.
The second round started late because of a rain delay. “I just hung tough,” Schauffele said. “I felt like I just tried to hit as many good shots after good shots as possible. I felt like I was able to do that, and despite the mud and the delay and all those things, I felt like I really just got in my zone there and made a lot of good swings. So I’m proud of that.”
What’s Wrong With Tiger’s Game?

In his past 22 starts in majors, he has missed the cut ten times and withdrawn twice. Tiger Woods says he’s still trying to recover from the catastrophic injuries he suffered in an SUV crash in 2021. He ran off a curvy southern California road, going 82 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. At the time, he wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to walk, let alone play golf again.
He says he believes his game will get better. “It will — in time,” the 48-year-old Tiger Woods said. “I need to play more. Unfortunately, I just haven’t played a whole lot of tournaments, and not a whole lot of tournaments on my schedule, either. Hopefully, everything will somehow come together in my practice sessions at home and be ready for Pinehurst.
