The Atlanta Falcons have spent the offseason loading up on offensive weapons. With the addition of Kirk Cousins, this offense has high expectations going into 2024. While star players like Drake London and Kyle Pitts will get a majority of the spotlight, every NFL roster needs fringe players who can play vital roles. The Falcons signed one of those pieces on Monday. Former San Francisco 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley has signed with the team.

Ross Dwelley was an undrafted free agent out of San Diego in 2018. In his career, he has been a reliable player. He has appeared in 84 out of 99 games. His best year was in 2020, when he caught 19 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown. In his career, he has caught 44 passes for 518 yards and five touchdowns.
The Atlanta Falcons are excited about the versatility of Dwelley. He has lined up all over the field including at fullback for the 49ers when Kyle Juszczyk was out with an injury. This is the third former San Francisco player to sign with the Falcons. Charlie Woerner and Ray-Ray McCloud also signed with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason.
2024 Outlook & Expectations
The Atlanta Falcons were competitive in 2023, but quarterback Desmond Ridder made too many errors for the team to win games consistently. Now that Cousins will be under center, the expectation is for the Falcons to win the NFC South. While the division is one of the easiest in the league, Tampa Bay is no slouch, especially after inking star safety Antoine Winfield Jr. to a deal. There are questions, but the Falcons still expect to make it back to the postseason in 2024.
The signing of Ross Dwelley may not seem important, but he does bring big game experience. San Francisco has made deep postseason runs in the past few years. If the Atlanta Falcons are going to try and compete in the NFC, they need players who have been in big moments before even if they are role players.
