Breaking: Philadelphia Eagles Extend Star Receiver Through 2028 Season

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. One of the reasons they are so dangerous is the receiving tandem of AJ Brown and Devonta Smith. While Brown was acquired via trade, Smith was a homegrown draft pick who has turned into an above-average receiver. The team is rewarding their young star with a three-year extension that keeps him in Philadelphia through the 2028 season.

Philadelphia Eagles Extend Devonta Smith

Devonta Smith was the tenth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He has done nothing but produce in his first three years. In his first three seasons, he has racked up 240 receptions for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns. His consistency through his first three years is what teams crave. While it is nice to have receivers who have huge games, having a player who can consistently get 60-70 yards per game is invaluable.

It is a three-year, $75 million extension with $51 million guaranteed. This is a team-friendly deal, and it also gives Smtih the opportunity to have another big payday. Devonta Smith is currently 25, meaning he will be only 28 when this contract is up. Whether it is the Philadelphia Eagles or another team, he could get another big extension.

It was a Jekyll and Hyde 2023 season for the Philadelphia Eagles offense. After starting 10-1 and looking unstoppable, the offense looked out of sorts for the last third of the season. No one has really been able to pinpoint the problem. However, one thing is clear. The problem wasn’t Smith. He still consistently produced.

If the Eagles are going to make it back to the Super Bowl, they have to have a dominant offense. They switched out their coaching staff. Saquon Barkley was brought in who is the most talented running back this team has had behind Jalen Hurts. They are primed to make a run at the NFC East crown and should be in a great position moving forward with their young receiver extended.
