The Boston Celtics are the class of the Eastern Conference. They roll into the playoffs as the number one overall seed and have been beating down opponents all year. One key offseason addition that led to the success was Jrue Holiday. His defense has been huge for the Celtics. He will be sticking around Boston for a while as the team signed him up for a massive extension.
Boston Celtics Sign Jrue Holiday To Extension

It is a four-year, $135 million extension for Jrue Holiday. He had a $37.3 million player option for next season but is waiving that in favor of this extension. What is even more shocking is the guaranteed money. Over $100 million of the contract is guaranteed, putting him in special company. He is the fourth player to sign a deal with that type of guaranteed money at 33 or older. LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Al Horford are the only other players.
Holiday has played a key role for the Boston Celtics this season. When the team traded Marcus Smart, they lost their defensive guard. Holiday was the perfect fit. While his scoring has understandably dropped playing next to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, his defense is as good as ever.
Is This The Boston Celtics Year?
The Eastern Conference is looking vulnerable. Their biggest opponent is Milwaukee, which has not inspired anyone in the past few weeks. On top of poor play, Giannis Antetokounmpo is dealing with a calf strain, and his health is unknown. The Cavaliers look lost, and the Knicks are injured. Orlando and Philadelphia are the most interesting teams, but they are flawed as well.
It is the Boston Celtics to lose. While the Finals will pose a tough matchup, the East is looking easier by the day. However, this contract means that if the Celtics do lose, they will keep their core together for a few more runs at a championship.
