New NXT Champion Crowned in 7-Man Ladder Match
The NXT Championship has been vacated since Oba Femi has been called up to the main roster. As a result, there was a seven-man ladder match on the Feb. 3 episode of WWE NXT as Joe Hendry, Dion Lennox, Jackson Drake, Keanu Carver, Ricky Saints, Sean Legacy, and Shiloh Hill battled to win the top championship on the brand. Let’s take a closer look at who won the NXT Championship in this match.
Joe Hendry is crowned the new NXT Champion
The main event of tonight’s episode of NXT saw the NXT Championship hanging from the ceiling in a ladder match. Seven men walked in and were looking to become the new champion, and Joe Hendry was able to win the match. This match was an excellent showcase of the future of WWE.
The challengers for Joe Hendry going forward are going to be interesting, but this is the first WWE Championship that he has held. He is a former TNA World Champion from one year ago and has won individual gold in many promotions, but this is the first time he has held a championship in WWE.
The NXT Championship is going to have some contenders, but it is going to be intriguing to see how he is booked. He has been a prominent face on the brand, and it would be intriguing to see how a match with Ricky Saints or Ethan Page would look. However, he is only going to be as good as the challengers he has.
His championship reign is going to be different than what Oba Femi has just come off of, and it will be interesting to see how long he remains champion. With his popularity, it is seemingly only a matter of time until he reaches the main roster himself. He has been successful lately on television, with his last match being at TNA Genesics, winning against Cedric Alexander and Moose in a three way match.
With the momentum and the crowd behind him, this is a chance to see if Hendry can be a world champion on a major brand and keep the fans entertained.
