Cooper Flagg Expresses His Opinion On Golden State Warriors
Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg recently expressed his opinion on the Golden State Warriors. Here’s what Flagg, 19, said.
Cooper Flagg Expresses His Opinion
Cooper Flagg may not be a man of many words, but he recently spoke about the Warriors squad that once featured his now-teammate, veteran Guard Klay Thompson, per DLLS Mavs. The 19-year-old said of Golden State, “One of the greatest teams of all time, if not the greatest. Just really entertaining basketball. Modernizing the game.”
The Golden State Warriors built an NBA dynasty starting in 2015, after years and decades of downtrodden days. Golden State’s past was nearly synonymous with failure, with the exceptions of certain situations, like winning the 1975 NBA Finals, creating the “Run TMC” trio of Tim Hardaway (the father of Tim Hardaway Jr.), Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin, and forming the “We Believe” team that rocked the NBA with an upset of the. No. 1 seed Dallas Mavericks.
Fast forward to the present. Golden State is known for the three-point avalanches, quick-strike fastbreaks, and the \trips to the NBA Finals. Golden State’s dynasty has changed the NBA world.
However, Golden State’s decision to select Thompson with the 11th overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft wasn’t widely praised by the general public. Golden State already had Stephen Curry and guard Monta Ellis, who currently runs his own basketball academy in Dallas after retiring in 2017.
Golden State ignored the appeal of the best fit through defensive-minded forwards, such as Marcus Morris, Kawhi Leonard, etc., and the San Antonio Spurs’ last-minute efforts to trade up for Thompson, 35. Thompson had a slow start to his NBA career but quickly rose to prominence and became half of the “Splash Brothers” duo alongside Curry.
Flagg On the Rise
Flagg recently shared his thoughts on the Warriors to the public, showing no ill will to the dynasty that has captured the attention of NBA fans worldwide. Previously, Golden State defeated Dallas 126-116 at the Chase Center on Dec. 25, 2025. Curry led the Warriors with 23 points, while Flagg led the Mavs with 27 points.
The current Dallas Mavericks team is far from a modern dynasty, but the No. 1 selection of Flagg is one of the few bright spots at the moment. The former Duke star currently averages 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, while shooting 48% from the field, 29% from three-point range, and 82% from the free throw line.
Barring the three-pointers, the Newport, Maine native has been adjusting to the NBA life as a Dallas Maverick after a slow start at the de facto point guard position due to the Mavericks’ injury concerns, and according to Head Coach Jason Kidd, the desire to develop his skills in a challenging role.
Flagg tied Kobe Bryant and Jayson Tatum for the most games as a teenager with 20+ points and no turnovers per Polymarket Hoops.
Next Steps
Flagg and the Mavericks will host Curry and the Warriors at the American Airlines Center on Jan. 22, 2026. The Mavs are currently 11-11 in home games.
The nationally televised game on Amazon Prime Video isn’t a major matchup on paper. However, the budding rivalry between the two teams has been a red-hot topic since the 2022 Western Conference Finals matchup, with the Warriors winning the series 4-1 over Luka Doncic and the Mavs.
