Atlanta Hawks Make Massive Trae Young Trade Ahead of 2025 NBA TradeDeadline
The Atlanta Hawks have made a significant move as they look towards the future of their franchise. With rumors about a major move swirling and making the NBA world buzz, it has finally happened. Let’s take a closer look at what the trade was and what it means for the league going forward.
Atlanta Hawks Trade Away Trae Young

ESPN’s Shams Charania is reporting that the Atlanta Hawks have traded away four-time All-Star point guard Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. This comes after a request happened last week and the two sides worked out a situation for the move to happen. Washington was reportedly Young’s preferred destination and in return, the Hawks receive CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.
The 27-year-old guard is set to be the face of the Wizards going forward and has been struggling a bit this season. He is averaging 19.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.0 steals in 28.0 minutes, but has been limited to only 10 games thus far. Young was traded to the Atlanta Hawks during the 2018 NBA Draft when he was selected with the fifth pick. He would spend eight seasons with the Hawks until this trade, averaging 25.2 points per game.
The Wizards will have an intriguing core of Young, forward Marvin Bagley III, and center Alex Sarr going into the future. For the Hawks, they were able to get an expiring contract with McCollum and will look for Jalen Johnson to be the next franchise star. These teams do not play again until Feb. 24 in Atlanta so that it will be an interesting reception for the young star.
It will be intriguing to see how the Hawks and the Wizards look going forward, but this is the end of an era for Atlanta.
