New York Jets QB Placed on Season-Ending IR Ahead of Week 17
The New York Jets are not having too much success in coach Aaron Glenn’s first season. The team holds a 3-12 record and continues to deal with injuries. While we have seen some injuries already, another major name will not be returning to season, so let’s take a closer look at who it is.
New York Jets Place Justin Fields on Season-Ending Injured Reserve

It was announced on Tuesday that Justin Fields will not play for the New York Jets for the remainder of the season. Instead, the quarterback would be placed on Injured Reserve and not be eligible to return this season.
He has been dealing with a knee injury that has sidelined him for a few weeks before this became official. Fields will finish his season completing 128 of 204 (62.7%) of his passes for 1,259 yards with seven passing touchdowns to one interception as well as 71 rushing attempts for 383 yards (5.4 yards per carry) with four rushing touchdowns.
The Jets are going to be towards the top of the 2026 NFL Draft and this is expected to be a weaker quarterback class with many college quarterbacks returning to college football for the 2026 season as well.
It will be intriguing to see what his future would look like as he is only guaranteed $10 million for the 2026 NFL season. Fields was already benched this season, and the New York Jets are seemingly ready to move on from him after one season. The team is starting undrafted free agent Brady Cook under center, so they are likely going to be in the quarterback market this offseason once again.
