Bo Bichette Is Telling Teams He’s Willing To Move To 2nd Base
Bo Bichette is one of the top free agents headlining this year’s class, and he is one of the best hitters in all of baseball. The biggest thing that hurts Bo’s game is his poor defense, but he seems to be open to changing positions if leads to him getting a bigger contract this Winter.
Bo’s Willing To Move To 2B
Mark Feinsand reported that the former All-Star reports that Bo Bichette is “starting to tell teams he’d be willing to move to second base.” Bichette doesn’t profile to be a long-term shortstop, and while he still may not play gold glove defense over at second, it’s likely he’ll be a better defender on the right side of the infield. Due to his limited range in the World Series, John Schneider decided to play Bo at second base, and he did a nice job.
Bichette suffered a significant PCL sprain in his left knee against the New York Yankees in early September against after a home plate collision with Austin Wells. This caused him to miss the ALDS and most of the ALCS before returning to play second base in the World Series. Now, he might shift to 2B long-term due to lingering knee issues affecting his movements over at shortstop.
This decision might actually land Bichette an even bigger deal if he becomes a full-time second baseman. There is a higher demand for the second baseman than shortstops in Major League Baseball, and Bo would be one of the best in the entire league. Even if he can be an average defender, his elite level bat will make his value skyrocket.
Who Will Land Bichette?
With Bichette willing to move to second base, his market grows tremendously. The Boston Red Sox would make a lot of sense, as one of their biggest goals this offseason was to upgrade the right side of their infield. They have shown interest in Ketel Marte, but Bichette could be more appealing to Boston because he won’t cost them any prospect capital, just money.
Recent reports indicate that the Toronto Blue Jays remain interested in retaining their star shortstop, and if Bichette were to become the everyday second baseman, Andres Giminez would likely slot in at shortstop. Toronto is pushing for Bo along with other superstars in the market such as Kyle Tucker, who would be a seamless fit at the top of their lineup. They’ve already brought in Dylan Cease to bolster their rotation, and are showing no signs of slowing down.
Keeping the AL East trend going would be the New York Yankees. With Brian Cashman putting an empasis on adding right handed hitters this offseason, Bo Bichette would be awesome to watch in the Bronx. He could be stay at short next season with the uncertainty surrounding Anthony Volpe, Bichette would be in the middle infield alongside Jazz Chisholm Jr. If the Yankees don’t re-sign Jazz in free agency, that would open up a lane for Bo Bichette to become the long-term second baseman.
