Can the Texas Longhorns Find Opportunity In Michigan’s Chaos?
Can the Texas Longhorns find opportunity in Michigan’s chaos ahead of the Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, on New Year’s Eve? Read on for further information to make an informed decision.
How to Watch the Citrus Bowl
The Citrus Bowl between the Longhorns and Wolverines will be available on ABC for TV viewers, as well as Watch ESPN and Fubo for streaming service customers.
The Longhorns have played the Wolverines twice and won both matchups. Texas’ first win was the 2005 Rose Bowl when Texas won a 38-37 thriller, thanks to the heroics of future College Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Vince Young. Texas’ second win was the road game at Michigan’s stadium, also known as the “Big House,” when Texas won 31-12.
The Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, as it’s been known as since 2022, began in 1947 as the Tangerine Bowl before becoming the Florida Citrus Bowl in 1983. It was the Capital One Bowl from 2003 to 2014. It was historically tied to the MAC, the SoCon, and the ACC.
Texas Can Find Opportunity In Michigan’s Chaos
Just weeks before the Wolverines were set to wrap up the 2025 NCAA season, the Wolverines announced Head Coach Sherrone Moore was fired “for cause.” Moore, 39, was arrested in Saline, Mich., and booked at Washtenaw County Jail for an alleged assault while allegedly being suicidal and wielding a knife just hours after the firing.
Texas was the best team in the SEC that didn’t make the CFP. Head Coach Steve Sarkisian said on Sunday, “We felt like if we didn’t get into the CFP, being right on the cusp, we’d have an opportunity to go to a really good bowl game.” And you think about the longstanding history and tradition of the Citrus Bowl with a really quality opponent being in Michigan coming out of the Big Ten, this was going to be a great opportunity for us, for our players, for our team.”
Sarkisian’s statement had a good point. Texas can achieve a statement win over Michigan and perhaps make history in the Citrus Bowl.
Final Thoughts
The Wolverines shocked the college football world with the recent headlines that subsequently caused chaos while allowing the Longhorns to win the Citrus Bowl and perhaps attract Michigan Offensive Tackle Malakai Lee, a highly respected OT from Honolulu, Hawaii, back to Austin, Texas.
If the Longhorns sign Lee, 19, the signing will significantly benefit Sarkisian, thanks to Lee’s size, skillset, and athleticism.
