Colorado Avalanche Sign Gavin Brindley To Two-Year Extension
The Colorado Avalanche have wasted no time in securing a key piece of their future, signing promising young forward Gavin Brindley to a two-year contract extension. The deal will keep the energetic 21-year-old in an Avalanche sweater through the 2027-28 season.
This move comes hot on the heels of a breakout moment for Brindley, who netted his first career overtime winner during the Colorado Avalanche’s win on Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks. That clutch goal was just the latest highlight in a young season that has seen him carve out a significant role with the team.
Brindley’s Strong Start with the Colorado Avalanche
After earning a coveted spot on the Opening Night roster, Brindley has quickly demonstrated why the front office has such high hopes for him. In his first 14 games, he has already put up five points (three goals, two assists) and is currently riding a two-game goal streak. His overtime heroics made him the seventh-youngest player in Colorado Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to score a game-winning goal in the extra frame.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing to start. The rookie, who arrived from the Columbus Blue Jackets organization in a June trade, had just one assist through his first 10 games. But something clicked after he scored his first NHL goal against the Dallas Stars on October 11. Since then, his confidence has soared.
Despite a brief injury setback—a concussion sustained from a hard hit against the Vegas Golden Knights on Halloween—Brindley has been a point-per-game player over his last four contests, tallying two goals and two assists. His speed and tenacity are a perfect fit for the high-flying Colorado Avalanche system.
A Proven Winner at Every Level
Brindley’s journey to the NHL has been marked by numerous achievements. He was selected by Columbus in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft, and after an outstanding two years at the University of Michigan, he went professional. He was a tremendous force in his sophomore year (2023–24), scoring 53 points in 40 games to lead the club. He won numerous awards for his dominance, including First Team All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year..
His resume on the international stage is just as impressive. At the 2024 World Junior Championship, when he placed second on the team in scoring, Brindley was a key member of Team USA and helped them win a gold medal. This was in addition to winning silver at the 2022 U-18 World Championship and bronze at the 2023 World Juniors.
He spent two seasons honing his craft with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm before to attending college, and in 2020–21 he was named to the league’s All-Rookie Second Team.1. After signing his entry-level deal in April 2024, he spent a full season developing with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, where he posted 17 points in 52 games before making his NHL debut late in the 2024-25 season.
