Jalen Green Expected To Miss Time With Hamstring Injury
Just when the Phoenix Suns thought they were getting back to full strength, the injury bug bit again. Star guard Jalen Green is expected to miss significant time after re-injuring his right hamstring.
The setback occurred during Saturday night’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Late in the first quarter, Green passed the ball to Ryan Dunn for a three-pointer and immediately felt a sharp pain. He hobbled toward the bench, grabbing at the injured hamstring, and had to be helped off the court by team staff. He did not return to the game.
This is a tough blow for Green, who just made his Suns debut on Thursday after missing the first eight games of the season with the same hamstring strain. In that single game, he gave fans a thrilling glimpse of his explosive scoring ability, dropping 29 points in just 23 minutes.
How long will Jalen Green be out?
The Suns are bracing for an extended absence. According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, the initial timeline suggests Jalen Green could be sidelined for four to six weeks. He’s expected to undergo imaging to determine the full extent of the damage. Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky, with reports indicating that about a third of them get re-aggravated in the NBA.
The Suns’ locker room was deflated but supportive after the game. Teammates Royce O’Neale and Devin Booker expressed their disappointment but emphasized rallying around Green during his recovery.
“It’s tough. Injuries suck,” said Dillon Brooks, who came to Phoenix with Green in the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade.
How will the Suns move forward without Jalen Green?
Despite the bad news, the message from the coaching staff is clear: no excuses. Head coach Jordan Ott, while sympathetic to Green’s hard work to get back on the court, insists the team will press on.
“This team will have no excuses,” Ott stated post-game. “We lace them up, go out and play.”
With Green out, the Suns will need other players to step up. Look for Grayson Allen and rookie Ryan Dunn to see increased minutes in the backcourt. The pairing of Green and Devin Booker looked electrifying in the brief time they shared the floor, and the team will now have to find new ways to create that offensive spark.
The timing is unfortunate, as the Suns (5-5) were just starting to build momentum. Now, they’ll have to navigate the next month or so without one of their key offensive weapons. The team is expected to release an official update on Jalen Green’s status soon.
