New England Patriots Defense Looks To Continue Making History In Week 10
The rush defense of the New England Patriots has been historic through the first nine weeks of the 2025 regular season. They are the only team in league history not to allow an opposing running back to reach 50 rushing yards in a game through the first nine games of a season.
New England’s defense is surrendering 75.4 yards per game on the ground this season. That leads the league by a wide margin. What has also made this streak so impressive is the level of running back the team has bottled up this season. They limited Raiders Running Back Ashton Jeanty to 38 rushing yards in Week 1 and Falcons Running Back Bijan Robinson to 46 yards on the ground last week. Can the Patriots defense keep limiting running back production?
How Will the Patriots Defense Fare This Sunday?
The Patriots defense has caught a bit of a break heading into this afternoon’s marquee matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Starting Running Back Bucky Irving has been ruled out with a foot injury. Tampa Bay will turn to Rachaad White to carry the load against a stout Patriots rush defense. Even with a healthy running back room, Tampa Bay’s rushing attack has been subpar. They are 24th in the league, averaging 98.1 rush yards per game.
Final Thoughts
This game will come down to which team’s defense can step up and make key stops. The Patriots and Buccaneers feature two of the league’s most potent offensive attacks. If New England can limit Tampa Bay’s rushing attack, that would force Baker Mayfield to throw the ball to win. That may not be a winning formula for the Patriots this afternoon.
