Shocking And Tragic Details Emerge As Marshawn Kneeland’s Death Stuns Cowboys And NFL
Shocking and tragic details are emerging regarding the death of Marshawn Kneeland, the Dallas Cowboys defensive end who scored a touchdown just three nights ago on Monday Night Football.
TMZ broke the news that authorities are investigating the death as an apparent suicide. Kneeland was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in Frisco, Texas. His death followed a series of alarming events that began Wednesday night.
Kneeland Was Involved in a Police Incident Before His Death
According to police, the situation began around 10:30 p.m. when Kneeland evaded state troopers during an attempted traffic stop. After losing him in the pursuit, his vehicle was later found crashed on the Dallas Parkway. Kneeland had fled the scene. Â
During the search, which involved K-9 units and drones, officers received information that Kneeland was expressing suicidal thoughts. He had reportedly sent his girlfriend, Catalina, a concerning message saying he would “end it all” and was texting his family goodbye. His girlfriend stated Kneeland was armed and had a history of mental issues, and that she was desperately attempting to contact his agent to help the situation. Â
The search ended several hours later when they found his body in what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Shocking News Comes During a Bye Week for the Cowboys
Just days ago, Kneeland was celebrating his first career touchdown, a blocked punt recovery against the Arizona Cardinals. Now, his teammates, coaches, and family are left to grapple with an unimaginable loss. Their next game will be November 17, in Las Vegas, against the Raiders.Â
The Cowboys and the NFL have made counseling resources available to all players, coaches, and staff as they process this tragedy. The focus now is on supporting his loved ones through this incredibly difficult time, a stark reminder of the human stories behind the pressure packed job as a NFL player.
