The Eagles Blow Out The Giants to get Revenge in Week 8
The Philadelphia Eagles finally had a complete game overall in the 38-20 win over the New York Giants in Week 8 as the running game was finally unlocked. The Eagles had two running backs who had over 100 yards rushing for the first time since 2013. Saquon Barkley started the game off right for the running game, with the second play from scrimmage being a 65-yard touchdown run. Let’s dive into a little more about the Eagles’ rushing attack in this game as we get into the takeaways.
The Eagles’ Run Game is What Controlled the Day

Like I pointed out with the 65-yard touchdown run by the 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, that play is what started the rushing attack for the now 6-2 Philly. The Eagles would end up running for 276 yards on 33 rushing attempts for a mind-boggling 8.4 yards per attempt. Barkley had a total of 150 yards on the ground before leaving with a groin injury in this game late, which didn’t seem to be a concern, but more of a precautionary measure with the game out of hand.
Tank Bigsby decided to finally show up after the Eagles acquired him in early September. Bigsby had 104 yards on nine attempts, including a huge 2nd and 31 conversion after a Hurts sack that went for -21 yards in the fourth quarter. Which is showcased below…

This was a huge day for the ground game to get going, with the hamstring injury to AJ Brown that kept him out of this game. The drama with AJ Brown over the last few days didn’t distract this team when it mattered, which led to Jalen Hurts’ performance.
Jalen Hurt’s Performance
Jalen Hurts had another great performance to follow up the perfect passer rating game up in Minnesota last week, as he controlled the game pretty well and threw for four touchdown passes for the first time in a long time, and threw for three-plus passing touchdowns in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. But QB1 isn’t satisfied yet, as the following tweet highlights.

The only bad I would say he did take a couple of back sacks, including the one before the huge Bigsby run, but overall, the Jalen Hurts MVP talk should be getting louder as we speak, especially after these last couple of weeks.
Cam Skattebo’s Ankle Injury was a Game-Changer

Meanwhile, the Giants lost their impressive rookie running back Cam Skattebo, thanks to a gruesome ankle injury that required an aircast and the cart to take him out of the game. Just wanted to say prayers to Skattebo for a healthy recovery, real quick. But as soon as he went out of the game, you could tell the Giants were deflated a ton.
New York’s offense couldn’t really get going after that moment until it was too late. The Giants will be a dangerous team for years to come, starting next year, but this year is going to be the year where they see what Rookie Jaxon Dart has, and so far, he’s been impressive.
Final Thoughts
The Eagles had to get this revenge win to head into the bye with the NFC’s best record before the completion of play on Sunday. This bye comes at a good time to get guys healthy and potentially see a big Howie Roseman trade. Hopefully, Nolan Smith, AJ Brown, Cam Jurgens, etc., come back after the bye week healthy and ready to go for that stretch run.
Meanwhile, the Giants are probably going to keep going through growing pains, but will be an interesting team down the road. But their season was effectively ended on Sunday afternoon because of the injury to Skattebo.
