Catholic University Cross Country Meet 4
The Catholic University cross country team had its fourth meet of the year near Rowan University. Catholic University runners did well on this flat course. An interesting fact from this cross-country meet the Catholic University ran at was that the course was so flat that spectators could see the Rowan mascot, on a 4×4 holding up a yellow flag, almost the entire time.
The mascot was at the head of the race, so it was useful for spectators to know where the race was. That is a departure from past Catholic Cross Country meets. Do you think it is useful to know where the race is?
Catholic University In the Border BattleÂ
The race today, called the Border Battle, took place on a warm day near Rowan University in Southern New Jersey. The men’s 8K began at 11:15 a.m. for the Cardinal runners, and the women’s 8K race was right before it.
In the men’s 8 KM race, there were again 10 runners for Catholic University. Joe Wolfe, a senior, was the top finisher on the day for the Cardinals. Wolfe ran 25:40.0 for the race. Michael Brunet, a freshman, ran a very fast 26.06.8. Joey Locke, a junior, ran 26:23.2. Tim Sweeney, a freshman, was the next best runner for Catholic, competing in the 8 KM race for the first time with a time of 26:35.4. That was a personal best by 20 seconds.
Tim Brown, another freshman, finished next with a time of 27:00.9. Peter Winter, a sophomore, finished with a time of 27.07.9. Richard Harrington finished with a time of 27.51.7. Shane Waring came in next for Catholic University in a time of 28:16.6. Joshua Leon finished next in 29:59.9. The final male finisher for the Cardinals was Brady Falcon, a freshman, in a time of 29:33.7.
In the women’s varsity 6 KM race, the Cardinals finished 34th. Freshman Olivia Sobkowicz finished the race in 22.02.7. Junior Laurel McMahon finished next, second on the team, in 22.22.6. Alexa Grassi, a junior, finished in 24:04.1. Bridgid Cavanaugh, a freshman, finished in 24:03.7. Erin Roche, a freshman, was next in 24:42.4. Mia LaMarra was next in a time of 25.38.7. Isabel Doran, a freshman, finished in a time of 26.34.1. Emma Schulenburg finished in a time of 26:39.6. Sara Roberts, also a freshman, finished in 26.47.2. Julia Becker brought up the rear in 30:08.0.
Other Races
In the men’s open race, Catholic University had three finishers. Danial Polanco finished in 47th place in a time of 28:19.4. Matt Haugh finished in 67th place in a time of 28:52.8. Matthew McCormack finished next, in a time of 33:15.0. There was a women’s open race, but Catholic University did not have any runners in that race.
Conclusion
Catholic University did well in this meet, coming in 13th place in the men’s race and 15th place in the women’s race. That placement, in particular, was a good one that improved upon the women’s placement in other meets this season.
Coach Rahn, the head coach of track and cross country at Catholic University, said, “The team did an incredible job across the board. We saw over a dozen personal bests and really gritty performances on a warm day. They’re looking great heading into the conference championship.” The conference championship is next for this team in the short cross-country season.
