Philadelphia Eagles’ Offensive Weapons Upset With Slow Start To 2025
Hold on a second. Are we really talking about drama in the “City of Brotherly Love?” The Philadelphia Eagles are sitting pretty at 4-0, fresh off wins against heavyweights like the Chiefs and the Rams. They’ve only lost once in their last 21 games. So, everything should be sunshine and cheesesteaks, right? Well, not exactly. It seems there’s a storm brewing in the Eagles’ locker room, and it’s centered around their passing game—or lack thereof.
Let’s be blunt: the Eagles’ passing offense has been about as exciting as watching paint dry. They are ranked a dismal 31st in the NFL for passing yards per game. The only team doing worse? The Titans are rolling the dice with a rookie quarterback. It is a head-scratcher, especially when you have two of the league’s most dynamic wide receivers on your payroll.
Why Are the Eagles’ Star Receivers So Frustrated?
A.J. Brown 𝙖𝙣𝙙 DeVonta Smith are frustrated with their roles in the Eagles’ offense, multiple sources tell me.
One is venting more publicly than the other. But both want something to change — specifically in the red zone.https://t.co/si4BSfXQUi pic.twitter.com/JAOFaCXoz7

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who together rake in a cool $57 million a year, are basically high-paid decoys at this point. Brown has a measly 14 catches for 151 yards, while Smith isn’t far ahead with 17 grabs for 158 yards. For two guys who are supposed to be stretching the field and making explosive plays, those numbers are just plain sad.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the frustration is boiling over. Brown took his grievances to social media before thinking better of it, while the more reserved Smith is reportedly just as ticked off. You can’t blame them. The Eagles’ game plan seems to be “run, run, run, let Hurts do something crazy, and then tush push.” When they get to the red zone, their star receivers might as well be spectators. And they know it.
Is the Hurts-Brown Bromance On the Rocks?
To pour a little more gas on the fire, the once-unbreakable bond between Jalen Hurts and Brown might be cracking. These guys have been friends since high school, with Hurts even being the godfather to Brown’s daughter. They were described as “an old married couple.” But as life happens, Russini reports they’ve drifted apart. Normally, their friendship would be the glue holding things together. But now? That glue might not be strong enough to patch up the on-field frustration.
So, would the Eagles actually consider trading one of their star wideouts? It seems unlikely, especially given the money they’ve invested and their struggle to find a reliable third receiver. Sources close to the team believe a trade is a long shot. It’s only October, and there’s a lot of football left to be played. The hope is that as the offense finds its rhythm, Brown and Smith will get more involved. For now, Eagles fans can probably take a deep breath. But if this passing game doesn’t get off the ground soon, this undefeated record might start to feel a lot less secure.
