Preview Of Three-Game Series Between New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins
Preview of the Yankees visiting the Twins for a three-game series. The Twins traded away a bunch of their veterans and essentially have a minor league team now. The Yankees should win all three games in this series. The Yankees got what they needed in their 12 games against the playoff teams, winning seven, and now have the easiest schedule remaining of any team in baseball. How many games do you think the Yankees will win during the rest of the season?
Preview Of Pitching In Twins-Yankees Series
After starting September by facing the Astros, Blue Jays, Tigers, and Red Sox, all probable playoff teams, the Yankees will finish out the season with four series against sub .500 teams, and they start tonight in Minnesota. The Yankees won seven of those games against possible playoff teams. And now they face poor teams. Without further ado, we will now preview the pitching matchups for the series.
Tonight at 7:40 p.m., Carlos Rodon will start for the Yankees. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He has not allowed more than two runs in any start since August 1, a stretch in which he has gone 5-1 with a 2.38 earned run average. His main problem, even in the stretch, is walks. Overall, he is 16-8 with a 3.11 earned run average. He has 186 strikeouts and has a chance to get to 200.
Rodon is scheduled to face Simeon Woods Richardson. In his just his second full season in the big leagues, the former prospect has been mediocre. He has a 4.58 earned run average in 94.1 innings. He is 6-4 this season.
Game 2
On Tuesday, also at 7:40 p.m., young Yankee ace Cam Schlittler will pitch. Schlittler has emerged as a key piece in the Yankees’ rotation since his debut in July. Schlittler now has enough statistics. We can preview how he may do. He is 3-3 with a 3.03 earned run average. Importantly, the fireballer has 63 strikeouts in just over 56 innings this season.
Schlittler will be opposed by Zebby Matthews. The 25-year-old joined the Twins rotation full-time in July amidst all the rebuilding. The results have been poor, with Matthews pitching to an earned run average above five in 10 starts while allowing more than a hit per inning. He is also just 4-5. The Yankees have the pitching advantage in the first two games.
Game 3 Preview
In the final game of the series on Wednesday, Luis Gil is scheduled to start for the Yankees. Gil has been great in eight starts since coming off the injured list. Overall, he is 4-1 with a 2.83 earned run average. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year had six hitless innings in Boston. He walks too many batters and throws too many wild pitches, but he is basically unhittable.
Gil is facing Taj Bradley. Bradley is the former Rays’ top prospect, but after a good 2024, he has seen his earned run average rise to 4.88 in 21 starts. After a stint at Triple-A, Bradley had a disastrous debut for Minnesota, giving up seven runs in five innings against the last-place White Sox. In three starts since then, he’s been more serviceable, allowing eight runs in 16.1 innings of work. The Yankees have the advantage in starting pitching in this game, too.
Hitting Preview
It will be fascinating to see if Aaron Judge can continue his hot streak. Other Yankees are dangerous hitters. Giancarlo Stanton is slumping a bit now, but could break out against Twins pitching. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is trying for a 30-30 season. His quest is probably the most important thing to preview here. The Yankees have other dangerous hitters.
The Twins are basically Byron Buxton and a bunch of guys at the plate. Buxton is having a very good year, with 31 home runs, a .270 batting average, and 22 stolen bases. Matt Warner and Kody Clemens, Roger’s son, are dangerous hitters, but that is about it. The Yankees pitchers should dominate in these games.
Conclusion
The Yankees successfully battled the four potential playoff teams, winning seven of the twelve games. The Yankees have the weakest remaining schedule in Major League Baseball. Their goal is to win two of the three games in this series. They must dominate the teams and need to start tonight against the Minnesota Twins. As this preview shows, the Twins are weak.
