The Washington Commanders have been one of the favorites to take a quarterback with the second overall pick. With Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and even JJ McCarthy in this class, it is a good time to need a quarterback. It is all but guaranteed the team will take one because of their latest transaction. The Washington Commanders have sent quarterback Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks.
Washington Commanders Send QB Sam Howell To Seattle
Another QB trade: Commanders are sending last year’s starter Sam Howell to the Seahawks in a pick swap, per sources.
Trade:

The Washington Commanders hoped Sam Howell could be their starter of the future. While he put up big stats at times, it didn’t lead to winning games. The team will look to reset with another young quarterback. They decided to maximize the value of Howell by trading him. Washington is sending a fourth-round pick (102) and a sixth-round pick (179) in this year’s draft along with Howell. In return, they are getting a third-round pick (78) and a fifth-round pick (152).
This is good value for the Washington Commanders. They spent a fifth-round pick on Sam Howell and are getting a top-80 pick in return. While they have to give up some draft capital, this is likely when his value would be the highest. This team needs quality young players, and now they have a higher pick to work with.
Washington Commanders Remaking The Roster
We see this often in all sports. When a head coach and general manager are fired, the roster gets overhauled. Sam Howell was the previous regime’s pick. The new people making decisions in the Washington Commanders front office want to hit the reset button. They haven’t been shy about making moves this offseason. They signed Bobby Wagner, Marcus Mariota, Dante Fowler Jr., Austin Ekeler, and a slew of other players.
The Washington Commanders aren’t being shy about remaking the roster. While you can question the moves, you cannot question their desire to have a completely different-looking team in 2024. A new quarterback will be under center in 2024. Sam Howell will now have to compete with Geno Smith for the starting job in Seattle.
