Top 5 Worst Jack Swagger Moments In WWE
Recently, former WWE superstar Jack Swagger, aka Jake Hager, announced his retirement from professional wrestling. Swagger was a very notable pro wrestler in WWE from 2006 to 2017. While he has had memorable moments in his career, some of them are not positive. There are moments that both he and WWE want you to forget about. Here are the five worst moments that have occurred in his WWE career.
1. Getting Arrested After Winning the 2013 Elimination Chamber Match
This is an obvious one, as this incident was embarrassing for both WWE and the man himself. 2013 was expected to be a big year for Jack Swagger as he was entering a feud with Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. To get to that point, Swagger needed to win the 2013 Elimination Chamber match. Which he did, and it looked like smooth sailing to WrestleMania 29.
Three days later, Jack Swagger was arrested for a DUI and marijuana possession. It got reported everywhere, including TMZ, and with all the bad press WWE got, that killed his planned push. He would later lose his WrestleMania 29 match and get pushed down the card, never returning to the main event.
2. Accidentally Concussing Dolph Ziggler
Injuries suck in any sport, especially in professional wrestling. The worst part is when a person who causes that injury feels remorse. 2013 was not a good year for Swagger. He ended his push and later concussed Dolph Ziggler in a match. What happened was that during a match with Big E Langston, Swagger accidentally hit a big boot move on Ziggler in the head. It resulted in a concussion, and Ziggler himself admitted he lost two days of memory. Concussions, man, they are scary.
To make things worse, Ziggler was the world champion at the time, and Vince McMahon soured on him as champion. What Swagger did was an accident, but this moment was a tremendous lowlight for him.
3. That Soaring Eagle Mascot
Why did WWE think it was a good idea to attach a soaring eagle mascot to Jack Swagger? To make it worse, Swagger was just coming off being champion, and this Eagle schtick did not do him any favors. WWE went all the way with this and even made an entrance theme for it. Swagger looked like an absolute goon, and it was embarrassing for WWE TV. What a complete waste of Chavo Guerrero, too, as he portrayed the Eagle mascot.
4. His Involvement In The Michael Cole-Jerry Lawler Feud
When many fans think of the worst feuds in WWE history, Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler’s feud is definitely in the top five. Guess who was constantly attached to Cole throughout that feud, Jack Swagger. So many awful matches and segments that it was shameful to see Swagger fall booking-wise. He went from world champion to being Cole’s bodyguard.
5. A Blatant Copy Of Kurt Angle
A big problem with Jack Swagger was that WWE tried to make him into a bad copy of Kurt Angle. They gave him everything that reminds the fans of Angle, including the ankle lock, the red & blue tights, the All-American Gimmick, and many more. It was done to mock Angle, who was in TNA, and it did not work at all. Every time Swagger was on screen, the fans thought of Angle. This hurt any chance of him getting over with fans.
