Mariano Rivera Suffers Brutal Achilles Injury
The New York Yankees can’t catch a break with injuries. Especially in the pitching department, with season-ending injuries to Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt. Well, turns out not even New York Yankees legend pitchers are escaping the injury bug that’s in the Bronx. It has just been revealed that MLB Hall of Famer and New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera suffered a Torn Achilles.
The Game the Injury Happened In
The New York Yankees were hosting an Old-Timers’ Day game where many notable former Yankees got to play. This year was special as this was the first time that the Yankees hosted this game since 2019. The Pandemic halted this, and after six long years, it returned. Well, now it’s marred with this news of Mariano Rivera’s injury.
How It Happened
Roger Clemens revealed this news. He was interviewing with WFAN Radio, and he notified everyone of the news. It occurred during a flyball, and apparently, he felt something pop while trying to make a play. For a 55-year-old like Mariano Rivera still having a passion for the game, getting hurt like that sucks. The news eventually got confirmed by his agent, and he is going to need surgery on it.
At Least He Has A Hit On Andy Pettite
To end on a positive note, it was terrific seeing Rivera as a hitter. The play of the game was when Mariano Rivera hit a ball off a pitch from Andy Pettitte. He got a single on the play, but he showcased that he still has it as a player. It’s just a shame that it’s not the most talked-about part involving Rivera. Hopefully, he can heal up quickly from this brutal injury and live his life normally, but the recovery is going to be very difficult for a man his age. One thing is for sure, the New York Yankees can’t catch a break this year.
