Will Warren Tries To Stop the New York Yankees Losing Streak At 4
Will Warren tried to stop the Yankees’ losing streak at 4 as they battled the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field. The Yankees are only now one and a half games ahead of the Texas Rangers, and they were counting on Will Warren.
Will Warren was battling the ageless Nathan Eovaldi, who seems to be getting better as he gets older. The 35-year-old has added a bunch of breaking balls to his arsenal. He presented a good challenge for the youngster, Will Warren, who leads all American League rookies in strikeouts with 130 coming into this game. The Yankees need to win at least one game in Texas to stay in a wild-card spot. Do you think the Yankees will make the playoffs this season?
Lineup Summary For Will Warren’s Start
The Rangers had Josh Smith as the third baseman, batting leadoff. Corey Seager was the shortstop, batting second. Marcus Semien was the second baseman, batting third. Adolis GarcÃa was the right fielder, batting fourth. Joc Pederson was the designated hitter and batted fifth. Wyatt Langford was the center fielder and batted sixth. Rowdy Tellez was the first baseman and batted seventh. Jonah Heim was the catcher who batted eighth. Alejandro Osuna was the left fielder and batted ninth.
For the Yankees, Trent Grisham batted first and was the center fielder. Ben Rice was the catcher and batted second. Aaron Judge was the designated hitter and batted third. Cody Bellinger was the right fielder who batted fourth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the second baseman who batted fifth. Paul Goldschmidt was the first baseman and batted sixth. Jasson Dominguez was the left fielder and batted seventh. Ryan McMahon was the third baseman and batted eighth. Anthony Volpe was the shortstop, batting ninth. Giancarlo Stanton pinch-hit for him in the ninth inning.
News and Notes
To make room for the returning Aaron Judge, the Yankees placed Austin Slater on the injured list. Slater hurt his hamstring in his third game as a Yankee. Before the game, the Yankees also optioned Relief Pitcher Greg Bird to AAA Scranton. Bird gave up a three-run home run in extra innings last night to lose the game. He also gave up a home run in his first outing as a Yankee. He might not be a good trade acquisition.
Game Reaction
Judge returned for this game. He batted third and was the designated hitter. He looked rusty. However, it was good for the Yankees that he was back. The Yankees’ lineup goes as Judge goes. With Judge back at designated hitter, Stanton was out of the lineup today. That is a shame because Stanton is one of the hottest hitters in baseball.
Will Warren pitched very well in this game. He matched zeros with Eovaldi through six innings. Eovaldi gave up nothing in the first six innings but a bunch of soft contact to the New York Yankees. Will Warren had traffic on the bases in almost every inning. Nevertheless, he battled and allowed no runs.
Camilo Doval was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for the Yankees tonight. He replaced Will Warren. He was followed by Luke Weaver. Neither of those closers will close. That leaves trade acquisition David Bednar and Devin Williams. Williams came in for the eighth inning.
Thankfully, the pitching was good and the game was short. Will Warren was very good, and Eovaldi was unbelievable. The key question was whether Eovaldi was going to come out for the ninth inning. Eovaldi did not come out for the ninth inning. The game slows down when Williams comes into the game. He looks scared and confused. He gets too much money to pitch like this.
Scoring Summary
In the eighth inning, Tellez singled, and both Garcia and Pederson scored. The Rangers led 2-0.
Final Thoughts
David Cone made an excellent point on the television broadcast in a discussion of who should be the closer for the Yankees. He said now is not the time to worry about anyone’s feelings. It is the case that Williams should lose his closer job. Thankfully, the game tomorrow will be at 2 PM. That means the game will end at a reasonable hour. It is a getaway game for the Yankees, who head home and are off Thursday before they take on the hated Houston Astros.
