World Championship Team Selected at 2025 US Championship
The World Championship team was selected at the 2025 United States track and field national championship in Eugene, Oregon, at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Total Apex Media was there to see it happen.
The United States will be sending a very strong team to the World Track and Field Championships in September in Tokyo, Japan. The United States is traditionally strong in the sprints and jumps, but this year the U.S. will also be strong in the middle and long distances. This is a departure from historical norms, but it is probably here to stay. How many medals do you think the U.S will win in the World Championships?
American World Championship Team
Several stars made the American team headed to the Track and Field World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. The top three in each discipline advance, assuming they have achieved the requisite world standard. Some of the American World Championship team are worldwide stars. However, there were some upsets, and there are some new athletes on the American World Championship team.
Probably the biggest NZo star in the world is American Noah Lyles. Lyles won the 200-meter race and will represent the United States at the World Championships in that discipline. However, he was upset in the 100-meter race. The United States in the World Championship will be represented by Kenny Bednarek, Courtney Lindsey, and T’Mars McCallum. Bednarek and Ku-Fu Kenny are well-established, but Lindsey and McCallum are relative newcomers.
Another big American star heading to the World Championships in Tokyo is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. She has historically dominated the 400-meter hurdles, but opted to run the 400-meter race instead. She won the 400-meter race in 48.90 seconds. A season best. Joining her will be Isabella Whittaker and Aaliyah Butler. Her absence from the 400-meter hurdle allowed veteran Dalilah Muhammad to make the team for the World Championships in what she said would be her last season. Another veteran, Anna Cockrell, finished second, and Jasmine Jones finished third.

Another big star to make the American World Championship team was Rai Benjamin in the 400-meter hurdles for the men. The former UCLA Bruin is one of the fastest men in the world and was perhaps the biggest favorite in this event.
Benjamin cruised to a time of 46.89. Joining him on the team are Caleb Dean and Christopher Robinson. Masai Russell will be on the team in the women’s 110-meter hurdles. She will be joined by Grace Stark and Alaysha Johnson. Finishing fourth in that race was veteran Keni Harrison. The tin medal does not qualify for the world championship, but she is in good company.
Drew Hunter finished fourth in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter finals. He is snakebit. However, American middle and long-distance running at the World Championships will be strong. This is a departure from the past, and the United States should challenge the dominant African runners. Cole Hocker, Grant Fischer, and Nico Young will lead an exceptionally deep American team. In the field, the American team will be strong. It will be led by a female shot putter, Chase Jackson. She is strong too, and likely to win.
Conclusion
The World Championships in Track and Field are a much bigger deal in the rest of the world than in the United States. Americans tend to pay attention to track and field every four years in the Olympics. Those are indeed the biggest events, but Americans should follow the teams. That is a way to prepare for the once every four-year Olympics.
