Paul George Injury Update
Paul George underwent successful surgery on his left knee. The Philadelphia 76ers player had the surgery on Monday, July 14, and will begin his rehabilitation before undergoing further evaluation.
What Happened?
Paul George, a 35-year-old veteran, had been experiencing discomfort in his left knee for months due to an injury he suffered during training camp. After several games before the All-Star break in which George needed injections to numb the pain in his knee and adductor muscle, the 76ers decided to hold him out for the final stretch of the season, resulting in him playing only 41 games.
The surgery was successfully performed at New York University’s Langone Orthopedic Sports Medicine Center by Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow, who ordered an arthroscopic procedure on George’s left knee. The forward signed a four-year, $211 million contract with the 76ers last summer, but unfortunately had an inconsistent season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, shooting 43% from the field. Paul joins Joel Embiid on the injured list for the 76ers, who hope to have them back for next season.
Final Thoughts
Paul George is one of the players who, despite his age, is an All-Star if he’s at 100%, without a doubt. He has all the qualities and experience to tear defenders apart.
But like Embid, injuries are taking their toll on his health and career. Unfortunately for him, his contract is now viewed as one of the worst in the league, given the $162 million guaranteed over the next three seasons. George will be re-evaluated in October, once training camp begins for the 2025-2026 season. Hopefully, medical advances can speed up this great veteran’s recovery, and we can see him play his final seasons.
