Crushing New York Yankees Defeat Athletics 12-5
The crushing New York Yankees won 12-5 at home today and got a surprisingly good start from Marcus Stroman. He came off the injured list to throw five effective innings. The Yankees hit four home runs, including two from Aaron Judge. The game was a needed departure for the Yankees. They scored 12 runs after getting just six hits in the two previous games against the Athletics.
The five strong innings thrown by Stroman were a surprise. He had been shelled by minor leaguers in his rehabilitation starts. Jazz Chisolm Jr. was awesome in this game. It was the most runs the Yankees had scored since May 13 against Colorado. Which Yankees team do you think will show up in Toronto?
Lineups As Yankees Deliver Crushing Blow To Athletics
The Athletics had Leroy Butler as the right fielder, batting leadoff. Jacob Wilson was the shortstop, batting second. JJ Bleday pinch-hit for him. Brent Rooker was the designated hitter, batting third. Nick Kurtz was the first baseman, batting fourth. Max Muncy was the third baseman and batted fifth. Tyler Soderstrom was the left fielder and batted sixth. Luis Urías was the second baseman and batted seventh. Willie Maciver was the catcher and batted eighth. Denzel Clarke was the center fielder and batted ninth.
For the Yankees, Trent Grisham batted first and was the center fielder. Cody Bellinger was the right fielder and batted second. Aaron Judge was the designated hitter who batted third. Ben Rice was the catcher and batted fourth. He was replaced by JC Escarra. Chisholm Jr. was the third baseman.

He was ejected following his inning-ending strikeout in the eighth inning. He was replaced by Oswald Peraza, who moved from third base. DJ LeMehieu entered the game at second base. Peraza was the third baseman and batted ninth.
Game Reaction
The five strong innings pitched by Stroman were a nice surprise. The Yankees were unsure of what they would get from him, as opponents were crushing him in the minor leagues. The inconsistent Yankees scored 12 runs today and got only six hits in the previous two games, scoring only three runs.
In their crushing onslaught, the Yankees hit a crushing four home runs, including two from the superhuman Judge. Speaking of him, Judge was hitless in his first two games and had been struggling for most of the month. He broke out in a big way in this game. He hit two home runs. That gave him 30 for the season.
Rice played well defensively at catcher, a good sign for the Yankees. Maybe they could move away from Austin Wells at catcher. Wells has struggled mightily. Goldschmidt also played well at first base. He leads the league in scooping balls out of the dirt and had about a half dozen today.
News and Notes From a Crushing Win
The Yankees shut out the Athletics on Friday was their ninth of the season. That is second to the 13 the San Diego Padres have. Stroman was roughed up in his minor league rehabilitation starts but said he felt good for this one. “I feel great,” Stroman said. “Excited to get back out there. It’s been a process.” That process included three Minor League rehabilitation starts in which he pitched to a 6.97 earned run average.
This was bad because Stroman, a major leaguer, should have dominated the minor leagues. His last outing came on Tuesday when he allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. He threw 65 pitches for AA Somerset. “I’m just making sure the knee’s moving well, body’s feeling good, arm’s feeling good,” Stroman said. “I’m someone who definitely needs the intensity to turn it back up, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”

Final Thoughts
The Yankees delivered a crushing blow to the Athletics, who are set to move permanently to Las Vegas. The 12-5 win was much needed. Not only did they score 12 runs, but Stroman had a good start. The Yankees delivered four crushing home runs. They won the series against the Athletics two games to one. They are headed to Toronto, where they play a four-game series. At least they will be happy.
