New York Mets With a Miserable Three-Game Series
It has been a rough few weeks for the New York Mets, but they hit rock bottom during this weekend’s series on the road against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh looked like playoff contenders instead of a ballclub 15 games under.500 The Pirates outscored the Mets 30-4 over the three-game set. New York was outscored by a franchise-record 26 runs during the series.
Things got so bad the team held a player’s only meeting following yesterday’s game. The New York Mets responded by losing the series finale 12-1. Will the Mets be able to get on track sooner rather than later?Â

New York’s terrible stretch has sent them plummeting down the standings. They are 1.5 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. They are 3-12 over their last 15 games. The Mets offense has not been good this season, but they have struggled greatly over the past few weeks. They are 19th in batting average, sixth in home runs, and 13th in runs scored. The offense has been paced by First Baseman Pete Alonso and Right Fielder Juan Soto. Alonso is fifth in the league in RBI. Soto is ninth in home runs.
During New York’s strong start to the regular season, their pitching staff carried the load. The unit has fallen on tough times as injuries and poor performances have doomed them. They are third in ERA(they used to be first by a wide margin), 19th in WHIP, and ninth in opposing batting average.Â
Final Thoughts
It is tough to know where the New York Mets go from here. With how poorly things are going, it must feel like the team’s issues will never end. In reality, New York is still in a very good position as the calendar nears July. The Mets return to the diamond on Tuesday to begin a three-game set at home against the Milwaukee Brewers. Hopefully, a new month will help New York regain its form from earlier this season.
