Chicago Bulls Extend Front Office Executives
The Chicago Bulls made news ahead of the NBA Draft when it was reported that they had extended the contracts of both their general manager and president of basketball operations. Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley have been at the helm for the Chicago Bulls for five seasons, with little success to show for it. As the team tries to build around a young core, their front office leadership is going to be here to oversee the operation for years to come.
Karnisovas came over from the Denver Nuggets basketball operation and was almost universally respected within league circles. The hiring of Karnisovas and the pairing of him with Marc Eversley before the 2020-21 NBA season got the Chicago Bulls great reviews and an invigorated sense of excitement and optimism for the future. After trying to build a championship contender around DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic, the Bulls are now in a rebuild. Ownership, always reticent to make changes, is trusting this front office group to lead them into the future.
Karnisovas & Eversley Extended by Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls decided to focus on the future with their pick in this week’s NBA Draft. Noa Essengue was the second-youngest player available in the draft pool, behind only Cooper Flagg. The Chicago Bulls selected Essengue with the 12th pick of the first round, showing a clear focus on the future by taking the raw, talented, and long-term project Essengue. The draft selection wasn’t the only future-oriented transaction the team made this week. They also extended the contracts of their front office executives Karnisovas and Eversley.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the team had come to an agreement with the duo on contract extensions. The Chicago Bulls are always very guarded with their business and the NBA lets them protect that kind of information so the exact details of the extensions are unknown. The report also indicated that the team is very close to coming to an agreement with Head Coach Billy Donovan on a contract extension.
The Karnisovas-Eversley administration has been in charge since the 2020-21 season and has overseen one of the more consistently mediocre teams in the NBA. During their tenure the Chicago Bulls have made the 16-team playoff field just once, losing in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. As the roster continues to skew younger and with a vision for the future, the front office has its contracts to match. Fans are hoping that the first five seasons under their stewardship aren’t predictive of the next five.
