Chicago White Sox Sign Noah Syndergaard To Minor-League Deal
The Chicago White Sox have signed pitcher Noah Syndergaard to a minor league contract, according to James Fegan of soxmachine.com. Syndergaard hasn’t appeared in the majors since the end of the 2023 season. Now at 33 years old, Syndergaard finds himself on a bad White Sox team that will surely give him the runway and opportunity to pitch. This could be an opportunity to put his name back in the spotlight. How will he fare with the team?
Noah Syndergaard Was Once Highly RegardedÂ
From 2015-2019, Syndergaard was one of the best pitchers in MLB. He only had an ERA above 3.20 in one of those four seasons, which came in 2019. His career-best ERA was in 2016, where he posted an elite 2.60 ERA. Syndergaard was elite for the first 4-5 seasons of his career, but injuries and Tommy John surgery in 2020 derailed his career.Â
After his Tommy John surgery, he was not the same pitcher. He returned for two innings with the Mets in 2021 and posted a 9.00 ERA and then spent the next two seasons with four teams. He went from young elite pitcher to trade candidate at the deadline every year. If he gets called to the big leagues, the White Sox will give him every opportunity to start.Â
No Risk Move For the White SoxÂ
The White Sox aren’t going anywhere this season. They’re 24 games back in the AL Central and 16 games back in the Wild Card race. If Syndergaard does reach the majors and does well, maybe there will be teams that will be interested in trading for him and Chicago could get something for him. If he’s bad, they can just let him go since he’s just on a minor-league deal.Â
If they want to keep him for the rest of this season, sure why not? Although Noah Syndergaard isn’t the pitcher he was earlier in his career, he can still be a veteran voice for the Chicago White Sox pitchers. Maybe taking the entire 2024 season off was what Noah Syndergaard needed.Â
