Does Will Warren have the Goods to win Game 2?
Does Will Warren have the goods to win game 2 against the Los Angeles Angels? The game is at Yankee Stadium on June 17, 2025. Being at home does improve Warren’s chances, as does the fact that the Angels cannot hit. Will Warren has been inconsistent for the Yankees this year. It is high time that Warren fulfilled his lofty potential. We have glimpsed it, including in his most recent start, but Warren has had several bad starts this season, too. Witch Will Warren will show up?
A Preview of the Pitching Matchup: Does Warren Have the Goods?
Will Warren has great movement on his pitches, but he struggles with location. As a result, Warren repeatedly does not fulfill his potential. His inconsistency is maddening to Yankee fans. His inconsistency is marked by his mediocre statistics. This season, he is 4-3 and has a 4.86 earned run average. He has had ample opportunity this year, starting fourteen games and pitching sixty-three innings. Yankees fans are right to wonder whether Warren will ever fulfill his potential.
For the Los Angeles Angels, Kyle Hendricks is the starting pitcher. His statistics do not reflect well despite a great pedigree. Hendrick’s statistics are even in comparison with Warren’s. Hendricks is 4-6 so far this season. He has an unsightly 5.20 earned run average. His poor win-loss record is a result of being a poor pitcher. He has a 1.34 walk plus hits per inning pitched and only forty-four strikeouts in seventy-one innings pitched. He spent forever pitching for the Chicago Cubs.
Injuries
The Los Angeles Angels have comparatively fewer injuries than the Yankees, but the injuries they have suffered are important. First and foremost, the Angels are missing their big-ticket Third Baseman, Anthony Rendon. He does not like baseball anymore. That is weird. The injury to Rendon is made worse by an injury to third baseman Yoan Moncada. So, the Angels are down to their third baseman. Also on the injured list are outfielder Chris Taylor and pitcher Robert Stephanson, and Ben Joyce.
The lengthy Yankees’ injured list got a bit shorter with the return of Giancarlo Stanton in the first game of the series. His presence does the world of good for the Yankees’ batting order. The big ones are the pitchers Garrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Luke Weaver. With Marcus Stroman hurt as well, that is 60% of the Yankees’ starting pitching rotation.
Though Stroman has changed his tune recently and now says he will do whatever it takes to help the team, including pitch out of the bullpen. The Yankees have other injuries, the most significant of which is relief pitcher Jake Cousins, who may need Tommy John surgery. He is significant because the Yankees’ bullpen does not do the job. They need depth.
Sloppy Play
The Yankees hope that the second game of this series will be clean. In all three games in Boston, the Yankees had three base runners make out at third base. In the first game of this series, the Yankees‘ third baseman, Jazz Chisolm Jr., was playing back and was asleep with Neto for the Angels on second base. Because Chisolm Jr. was playing back, Neto stole third base, and nobody was covering third base.
Final Thoughts
The second game of the series is another opportunity for the reeling Yankees to win a game. Now that Giancarlo Stanton is back for the Yankees, the is a strong likelihood they will prevail in this game even though they have been struggling recently. Warren does have good stuff, but he has been inconsistent.
