Ryan Yarbrough Has a Huge Matchup In Game 2
Ryan Yarbrough had his work cut out for him facing Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet. Ryan Yarbrough has pitched well for the Yankees since he entered the starting rotation. Ryan Yarbrough pitched poorly in this game, and the Yankees lost a marathon, 8-7. Crochet gave up five runs. He had an earned run average of less than two runs a game, and his performance hurt the sterling number.
Starting the All-Star game for the American League is probably between Crochet, the Yankees’ Max Fried, and the Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal. Who do you think will be the starting pitcher for the American League in the All-Star Game?

Game Reaction
Coming in, this was a great pitching matchup on paper. The pitching matchup was the best one of the series. Red Sox ace Crochet was going for them, and Ryan Yarbrough was the starting pitcher for the Yankees. He came in with a 3-0 record and a 2.83 earned run average.
It was amazing to see Wells hit a three-run home run in the second inning. Crochet had not given up more than two runs in any start this season. On one swing, he gave up three. Ryan Yarbrough was given a lead. It was also amazing to see Ryan Yarbrough give up five runs in the third inning after he had been so well since joining the starting rotation.
Ryan Yarbrough also gave up a solo home run in the fourth inning to Gonzalez. Gonzalez had a career game, all in four innings. He has a home run, a double, and a single with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Surprisingly, Ryan Yarbrough completely failed in this game. That was surprising, given he has been so good. It was also surprising that Crochet gave up five runs.
News and Notes
After getting hit by a pitch and being removed from the game, Anthony Volpe was not in the starting lineup for the Yankees. That meant Peraza needed to start at shortstop. It is difficult to overstate how important Volpe is for the Yankees. Also, not in the starting lineup for the Yankees was Chisholm Jr. He has been great for the Yankees since coming off the injured list. He has been playing third base. This was just a maintenance day for Chisholm.
Every game between the rival Red Sox and Yankees is a battle, and Friday’s game was no different. The Yankees jumped out to an 8-0 lead. The Red Sox came back. The final score was a 9-6 Yankees victory. Last night’s game was the same.
