New York Yankees Look To Take Game 2 In LA

New York will attempt to win the second game in Los Angeles behind a hot Will Warren. He has been great for New York over his past four starts. This is the second consecutive game that New York has had a pitching advantage against Los Angeles. Los Angeles has been injured recently, and New York has been hot. However, games are usually decided by the ballpen. Do you think starting pitchers matter to the outcome of the game?

Pitching Matchup Favors New York Again

With Warren starting against newcomer Landon Knack, the Yankees have the pitching advantage in the second game as well. After beginning as an injury fill-in, Warren is looking like a legitimate major league starter each time he takes the mound, he has been great in his last four starts. His pitches have always moved a lot, his location has always been a pro. Hot so recently.  Fans of the New York Yankees hope this stage, a rematch of the 2024 World Series, is not too big for him. 

Warren’s last outing was a rain-shortened one in Colorado. The former top prospect has a 2.05 earned run average and 0.89 fielding independent earned run average over his last four starts. The Yankees have won each of his last four starts.  He has a 33:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio and zero homers allowed for New York. 

Warren will face Knack, whose presence is a sign of the woes of the overall health of the Los Angeles starting rotation, with Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Roki Sasaki all hurt. The second-year swingman has struggled so far this year, allowing 17 runs and 41 baserunners in only 29.1 innings.

Nothing is working for Knack as opponents are slugging at least .500 against his fastball, curve, and slider, with only the changeup doing marginally well. Things are starting to look up for Knack as he did have an encouraging start last time out, holding the New York Mets to one earned run in six innings.

Despite Mismanagement, New York Has the Bullpen Advantage

New York fans have been critical of Yankee Manager Aaron Boone for mismanaging the Yankee bullpen. He had Devin Williams, the beleaguered closer, try to save the second game of the Angels series. It was 3-0 Yankees when he came in, and the Yankees won the game 3-2 after he let in 2 runs. Boone has made other odd bullpen decisions lately.

That said, the New York bullpen is one of the best in baseball. The Dodgers, on the other hand, have a lot of injuries in their bullpen. Despite signing a boatload of stars, they have been just average so far this season. This is an advantage for the Yankees, as most baseball games are decided by the bullpen at the end of the game.
