Game 2 Decimation Of Colorado Rockies By New York Yankees
Game 2 in Denver was important for the Yankees to win. They did 13-1. The Yankees used a 10-run fifth inning to power their game 2 victory. Colorado is terrible (they made mistake after mistake), so their surprise victory in the first game of the series was an aberration. The Yankees returned things to normal in game 2 with a resounding victory. Now they could use a similar performance in the third game of this series. Who do you think will win the third game of the third game?
Aaron Judge Is Amazing
We might be witnessing the greatest hitter in baseball history right now Aaron Judge. In this game, he hit his 18th home run in the first inning. That leads Major League Baseball. He is leading the major leagues in almost every conceivable offensive category, and the rate at which he is destroying baseballs is just silly. The hardest thing to do in sports is to hit a round baseball with a round bat. Judge makes it look easy.
The only issue with Judge is his performance, or lack thereof, in the playoffs. Judge has had 220 postseason at-bats and is only hitting .205. His postseason numbers are uncaptain-like for the captain of the Yankees. Another issue is his age. Judge, who played baseball in college, is 33 years old. We probably only have two or three years of peak Judge before “Father Time,” who is undefeated, wins out. Yankees fans hope the Yankees can win the World Series again before this window closes.
Max Fried Has An Advantage That Makes Him Better
Max Fried has unbelievable pitching statistics. Among his superlatives is that he has not given up more than two runs in any start this season. Also, he is now 4-0 following a Yankee loss. It would not make sense to list his pitching statistics, but they are good. In his dominant performance today, he had only 77 pitches through seven innings. However, he has another advantage that makes him even better.
Fried is a left-handed pitcher. Left-handed pitchers have an advantage in holding runners on first base because when they pitch out of the stretch (which they do with a runner on first base), they face first base. Fried might have the best pick-off move in all of baseball. He picked two runners off first base in this game 2, and he now has 6 pick-offs this season. So, on the rare occasion that a batter makes it on base against Fried, they need to be careful they do not get picked off first base when they become baserunners.
Scoring Summary
The Yankees scored a bunch of runs, so this is going to take some time. In the first inning, Judge hit a long solo home run to center field, and the Yankees led 1-0.
The Yankees scored 10 runs in the fifth inning of Game 2. Oswald Peraza doubled, and Austin Wells scored. That gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Then Trent Grisham reached on an error, and Peraza scored. That made it 3-1 Yankees. Cody Bellinger then hit a sacrifice fly, and Paul Goldschmidt scored. That made it 4-1 Yankees. Anthony Volpe singled, and Grisham scored. That made it 5-1 Yankees. Jasson Dominguez hit a sacrifice fly, and Judge scored. It was 6-1 Yankees.
The hits just kept on coming in the fifth inning of Game 2. Austin Wells doubled, and both Anthony Volpe and DJ LeMahieu scored. It was 8-1 Yankees. Goldschmidt then singled, again, and Wells scored. That made it 9-1 Yankees. Finally, Grisham doubled, and both Peraza and Goldschmidt scored. That made it 11-1 Yankees.
In the eighth inning, Volpe doubled and Bellinger scored. That gave the Yankees a 12-1 lead. Also in the eighth inning, LeMahieu singled and Volpe scored. That made it 13-1, which was the final score.
Conclusion
Goldschmidt was 3-of-4 with a walk for the Yankees. He is overshadowed by Judge but is having an excellent season. The Yankees had 21 hits in this game 2. The Yankees need to keep their game 2 momentum going in the third game of this series tomorrow at 3:10 pm Eastern time. The Yankees are starting Will Warren in the third game, and he has been recently effective. If he pitches as well as he has been, the Yankees have a very good chance to win the third game of this series.
