Colorado Rockies Shock New York Yankees In 1st Game In Colorado
The Rockies might be the worst baseball team in Major League Baseball history. The Yankees were expected to sweep this series against the Rockies, and they got off to a poor start, losing the first game 3-2. The Yankees needed to take advantage of this series against the Rockies because they play a hot Angels team next, and then they reprise their 2024 World Series matchup when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers. Do you think the Yankees must take advantage of these games with the Rockies?
LineupsÂ
The Colorado Rockies had Jordan Beck in left field, batting leadoff. Ezequiel Tovar was the shortstop batting second. Hunter Goodman was the catcher, batting third. Ryan McMahon was the third baseman batting fourth. Brenton Doyle was the center fielder batting fifth. Mickey Moniak was the right fielder and batted sixth. Kyle Farmer was the first baseman and batted seventh. Michael Toglia pinch-hit for him and stayed in to play first base. Nick Martini was the designated hitter and batted eighth. Adael Amador was the second baseman and batted ninth.Â
For the Yankees, with whom the Rockies could not match up, Trent Grisham batted first and was the center fielder. Aaron Judge was the right fielder and batted second. Ben Rice batted third and was the designated hitter. Paul Goldschmidt was the first baseman and batted fourth. Jasson Dominguez was the left fielder and batted fifth. Anthony Volpe was the shortstop and batted sixth. Austin Wells was the catcher and batted seventh. DJ LeMahieu played second base and batted eighth. Jorbit Vivas was the third baseman, batting ninth.Â
Scoring Summary: Rockies Shock Yankees
The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Goldschmidt tripled and Judge scored. That was all they got in the first inning, but they expected more. In the fourth inning, Farmer singled and McMahon scored. The Rockies tied the game at 1, and at this point felt like they could win.
In the fifth inning, Judge hit a home run. That was his first at Coors Field. The Yankees took a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning, McMahan hit a two-run double. Tovar and Goodman scored, and the Rockies led 3-2. They believed they could win. Clarke Schmidt was not effective, but this is not his fault. By now, a team needs to score more than two runs. However, that was it.
Game NotesÂ
The weather for this game was great. It was 81 degrees Fahrenheit, sunny, and there was no chance of rain. It was a far cry from the terrible weather in The Bronx.
Gerrit Cole is unbelievable. That was the best $300 million the New York Yankees have ever spent. Cole is out for the year after getting Tommy John surgery. He is out, but he is still around. He is watching the videotape of the other pitchers and breaking it down. They credit him for their good years. Quite a few Yankee pitchers have turned it around, and they credited Cole with their success.
The Yankees’ prospects also continue to do well. This time it was Griffin Herring, the Yankees’ No. 25Â overall prospect. The Louisiana State product struck out 10 and threw six hitless frames in his most recent outing to lower his earned run average to 1.21 and his walks plus innings pitched to 0.90. Opponents are batting .155 against the 22-year-old Herring. He has not surrendered more than a run in six of his eight appearances.
Judge was 0-of-3 yesterday, which dropped his batting average to .396. He wasted no time getting back on track, he singled in his first at-bat of the game. The Colorado Rockies have struck out the second-most times in baseball. This was Colorado’s 9th win of the year.
Conclusion
It is a bad thing that the Yankees lost this game. Anything less than a sweep in this series would be a disappointment. Now that will not be possible. The Yankees may have now lost their momentum. They play the hapless Rockies in Denver on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, hopefully, they win. Now they will try to take 2 out of 3 from the Rockies. Doing so is important because the Yankees continue this odd and demanding road trip against the surprising Angels and then against the Dodgers.
